Definitely, although I like that 8" screen on the Alpine!

I see Kenwood took my suggestion and redesigned their UI for the nav units. I have a DNX9980HD and found the UI to be rather cheesy and lacking in color.

Crutchfield is now taking pre-orders for the Kenwood DNX690HD. I am thinking about it. Anyone have opinions and/or experience with the Kenwood Excelon double din units?

Also, what is a good backup camera for our trucks to add to a new HU?

Before you seriously consider any of the alpine decks, look at the price of the dash kit for our trucks.

Does the Alpine take a different dash kit? Crutchfield purchases come with the vehicle specific dash kit and wire harness. I was only looking at the Kenwood's because they use the Garmin GPS which I prefer.

Love4steel, Crutchfield states they have not received the actual dimensions and complete specs for the new Kenwood but led me to believe it would not be different than their previous models. I think they will fit. I am leaning towards the 690 instead of the 990 because it does not have a moving faceplate (something to break easily). I am anxiously awaiting the fine details before ordering. Will post when I hear something!

Just need to decide on a backup camera.......

Kenwood will not disappoint. They are the only double din manufacturer that doesn't try to re-invent the wheel every year and come up with some half-assed new idea that is supposed to be appealing because it's "cutting edge." Rather than trying to come up with useless stuff that works poorly like pioneer or alpine, Kenwood dedicates their efforts to making their units faster, more user friendly, and keeping previous units up to date. Try getting software / navi / bluetooth updates for any pioneer (it's a losing battle). Alpine only releases updates to address serious issues. I have a Kenwood unit that I bought new in 2009. Since then, Kenwood has released several software and bluetooth updates, and since they use garmin for navigation, you can always keep your navi up to date. Not to mention 5v pre-outs from their excelon models.

Has anyone picked up the DNX690 yet? Crutchfield says the 690 will not fit my 09 DC but the 570 will.

I also need to know if I can load European maps as I am station in Germany for a couple more years. Then it will be back to the US maps.

if crutchfield doesnt have a trim kit for your car/truck they will list the stereo as doesnt fit. The dnx690 is a standard double din stereo. I honestly dont know why crutchfield doesnt have the kits. they are out there.

Got a reply back from Crutchfield, the advisor said there would be no problems. Now just to get some European maps on it.

Installed the Kenwood DNX690HD yesterday in my 08 and love it so far! Wired a backup camera in addition to it! Have tons to figure out, but first impression is great. FYI, connect the parking brake sensor wire to a ground and everything works (DVD plays while driving for the passenger to watch).
