I can't be the only one with this dilemma. So I put my double din unit in and tried to find one that matched as best I could. Now everything is functional however, it does NOT stay put very easily and although at first glance looks clean once you take a closer look it looks awful.

What did you guys do to fix this? Any other kits fit better? or am I just out of luck here.

Here are a couple pics to show what I'm talking about.

Does that kit fit much better and more securely? Reviews seem to be complaining more so about the color and texture vs actual fitment.

I'm an idiot. Reuse the clips from the factory setup and everything locks in tightly and sits flush

Thanks OP. I am looking to get a double din tv from Crutchfield. I have been wondering about the quality of their dash kit that comes free with purchase.

Just a heads up..the Crutchfield free kits are Metra/Schosche...they have both options in black and silver.

When putting them in the cart you get black, textured or silver, textured..those are the metra. The black/silver, smooth are schosche. Just confirmed this with a sales rep also

Anyone suggest one over the other? I have the textured stock right now. Is one better then other? Just silver or textured?

You can search for dash kits and you'll get quite a few mixed reviews for each, but through my research it seems that the metra (textured) is what a lot of people prefer. One of the biggest issues I've seen is, like the OP here, forgetting to reuse the stock yellow clips

That's a solid install - I like that headunit a lot. It looks much more OEM than most of the aftermarkets out there. Also a big fan of the black textured dash kit

Ive had both the Metra DD kit and and the Scosche DD kit. Although the metes is textured to match better.. I hated how it fit. I prefer my Scosche much more.

How did the fit compare with the scosche? Was it an edge thing or hazard button fitment?

Both actually. I had to trim the hell out of the hazard button opening. And even it never fit right. Like it got hot and tweaked.

I didn't need to modify anything at all. Maybe they've improved on the design? Hazard works perfectly, but it does take a little finesse to get everything lined up.

Anyone ever order anything from Crutchfield marked "scratch & dent"?

Just ordered my Kenwood DDX770 double din. Pretty excited. Talked to their rep. guy and he assured me it was probably something really minute.

You sir...dang. I made the same mistake and you allowed me to fix mine. Fitment still isn't great on one side but a Dremel or razor knife should fix it tomorrow. This has plagued me for a year. The made it look almost factory. Thank you. Don't care how old this thread is, don't care one bit.
