How hard is it to weld these yourself? I am debating if I should have JLee weld them on or buy a welder and do it myself. On one hand if JLee weld them, they will be professionally installed but in the other hand, I will save $150 and I can use that money towards a good welder. I wish there were some kind of a weld party where you can bring your sliders and welder and learn to weld them on.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
If you know how to weld then i say go for it but if your going to try and learn to weld I wouldn't try it. Welding on sliders is not a beginner job you will be welding at odd angles and that is hard to do if your just starting out.

This is about the smallest welder Id recommend

I owned this back in the day and it's pretty good too.

Now that i have 3 phase powder this will be my next welder

Just dropped mine off to get powder coated. Found a friend that will do it dirt cheap! Hopefully have them installed in about a week! :)

The Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder 500500 looks like what I will be getting in the future. The lincoln welders looks good as well. I am still doing my research on welding and welders. I will appreciate some tips on welding when I come to have the sliders welded at your shop.

    Jerry,

I was taking to a friend about the sliders I was getting and he asked how I was mounting them. I said I'm welding to the frame. Then he said he was in welding school and had always been taught to never weld in straight lines on vehicle frames because it could cause stress lines and possibly crack?

At first I was like no way, think about all the off road trucks out there that have sliders welded on. But now I'm curious. Have you ever heard about this?? This is a question towards any welders out there. What are your thoughts on welding to truck frames especially older frames?

I've heard the same. Addicted Offroad posted on the 4runner forum about using diagonal frame plates when attaching the sliders because it takes a lot of stress off the welds. I'm not 100% sure what Jerry uses, but I'm sure it's more than adequate. I'll try to find a photo of their frame plates.

Well i don't have straight lines on my frame plates well the bottom does here is me frame plates. I put a small fish mouth on each side and a radius at the top to relieve any stress the sliders or the welding would add.

That may be for the welds but then you have all the forces of the sliders pushing on one point at the top and I feel that is worse for the frame. I feel my frame plate design is going to have the least amount stress on the frame then any in the market today.

Nice, I like that design. Great work Jerry.

That's just what I heard. I 100% trust you and your fab skills. I like your idea a lot more because their is no single point where stress can be focused.

Damn, you really can knock these out now that you don't have the 9-5. Looks like I will be making my trip up a lot earlier than I thought.

Also I posted a picture of my potential slider and this thread over at t4r and there was A LOT of interest. I really think you could get into the 3rd gen market if you wanted. Thanks again for taking the extra time to make me some sliders for my 4runner.

Yeah now that I have full days to work the orders will move a lot faster. And once we get your sliders done I'll add them to the website and you can send a link to the t4r guys.
