Fly rod christmas present

So my Brother has asked for a fly rod for christmas, I'd like to get him a rod and reel, and a few pieces of tackle.

Any recommendations on brands? size of line and rod?

I'd like to spend about $100 bucks, he's new to fly fishing, so he doesn't need the very best.

It all depends on what type of fly fishing he's going to be doing. Having said that, I think most beginner outfits come with a 4 or 5 weight rod/reel combo. There are plenty of boutique fly fishing brands out there if he wants to upgrade once he knows more. I've been fly fishing for years and still use a cheap rod/reel combo that was about 100 or less when I go fly fishing for bass and bream. I think Cabelas has some pretty decent combos for starting out.

Great, It will be trolling in a fishing boat, and fishing from a dock.

He will be fishing for regular sized trout for the most part.
