Any Pop Up Trailer Users?

I been thinking about getting one.

Do you guys usually camp at places with power to use things like the fridge and lights?

Does the Stove run off propane?

Do they have batteries for a pop up trailer for times when your camping in a spot with no electrical outlet?

Got any pics?

Camped at both. They have a 12v battery for the lights, fridge and heater if equipped. The heater runs off propane and 12 volt for the fan. The fridge is a 3 way unit, propane, 120v or 12 volt. When plugged in the inboard inverter charges and runs the 12 volt stuff. I purchased a solar charger forthe camper to use while on site to top off the battery during the day. I have used the battery for a weekend and been fine. Look around on craigslist for slightly used campers to save a butt load.

my brother has a fleetwood ED3(?). it is one of those tall, riding on 31" tires offroad ones. it has a small slideout. it is insane. we use it for desert deer hunting. he runs a small honda EU2000 generator and it works great. the stove is propane, heater too. hell, i think the fridge is propane too. cant be sure. we used icechest filled with ice and food.

we use the shower, but simply run the discharge hose away from camp. the rig is a tad on the heavy side, but he pulls it with a duramax. i've moved it around with my tacoma and you definately feel it there. if i got one, i would get the ED2 that doenst have the slideout.

If you are going to be camping off grid consider getting a quiet generator.

 

the honda 2000 watt is a really quiet one. but expensive

 

Yea my friend has the eu3000 it and it is amazing! Its a must have for me!!!

Rather than a slide out i would go for a porta poty and ac.

 

the EU3000 is heavy. two EU2000's is a better option, but that kit to connect the two for 4000 is expensive. my brother has the toilet, but needs the AC.

i want an EU3000 for my home.

 

Yea he just leaves the generator in the back of his chevy 3500. I dont know if just one 2000 will push an ac though. Maybe a small one on a pop up?

 

eww..AC, no-go with one 2000.

the 3000 is the minimum. i admit, one 3000 is cheaper than 2 2000's with the parallel kit.

 

Actually, the Honda eu2000 will fire up a 13,500, and even some 16,500 BTU AC units. But idk why someone would want AC with a tent trailer, all the cold air would escape

 

I bought a Jayco with a 10ft box. Dual propane tanks that run the stove, furnace, and fridge. Battery (haven't camped without electric hookup) for lights when not hooked in to the grid.

Mines a 96 and I paid 2700 for it. Taco pulls it like a dream, we did 1k miles with it all around the upper Lower Peninsula a few weeks back and I got around 15mpg towing in 4 (not D).

Things to look for when buying used is stains, damaged cabinetry, making sure the cranking mechanisim works well. Make sure the beds slide well. Have the seller set it up in the sun and watch them set it up if possible. Then climb inside and look for sunshine through pinholes, stretched seems and the lot.

Most have roof vents, a max air roof vent cover is nice so you can keep the vent open for air flow when it's folded down without water getting in.

Craigslist is the whip for campers. You can alwasy rent one for the weekend to make sure you'll like it before you buy one. If you have a family everyone will have to get used to Submarine living in a way. Not everyone can be climbing around the sink/stove at the same time.

 

serious? hmm..maybe i am wrong. i remember do the math and the unit my bro wanted was too large for his 2000. maybe he wanted to run some other stuff. (rice cooker )

AC is good anywhere you are sweating balls. our AC in our cars are very inefficient too. shut it off, and the car's interior heats up in minutes. tents leak, but cold air blowing down your neck can feel like Christmas.

we've put off a summer AZ deer hunt because of the lack of AC. i might buy him one.

 

usually one 2000 wont turnover an ac on most campers. You would have to have the 2nd generator and cable or just one 3000. Yamaha also makes a few nice generator that might be a bit cheaper than honda.

We have to remember that we only have a tacoma, every pound adds up! Two generators + all the other gear in the back of our truck will add up fast.

Do I hear air bags???

 

my TT doesn't have AC, so I was on a mission trying to find the most economical way of adding one and found that a 13.5 BTU AC unit would work on a honda 2000, but its really dependant on brand of AC unit. Also, if the honda can't hold it, some of the folks on RV.net have slightly modded the honda to make it work for them, some of them didn't need to mod the honda and it worked out fine

 

What all are you running that draws so much? Like I said I've only camped with actuall hookup but we don't run a tv, maybe a radio and the lights. the rest could run on just the propane (minus the furnace fan)

For us the camper is just a more comfortable place to sleep and hideout in the rain. If it weren't for me having 2 kids I'd be in the truck bed or in a tent but it's tough climbing over each other while trying to play candyland in a tent. If it were just the wife and I we'd be playing twister

 

the AC draws a lot.

In the end, we decided to go without the AC unit and just tough it out. We hardly hang out in the TT, just to sleep and shower, sometimes cook, but most of that is done on the grill outside. We almost always camp without a hook up and we are fine with the battery the whole weekend. The only thing that draws a lot might be the water pump and the lights, but that's minimal. Oh, and I have an electric tongue jack also

In other words it will run a 13500 btu roof top a\c for you pop up but not much else. leaves you about 3.5 amps for lights. I would recomment a bigger generator to be safe, and your generator will have a longer and easier life.
