Those are nice flounder. How did you work that minnow lure to catch them?

Hey Wizard those are actually California halibut. I usually get them surf fishing. The lure is a luckycraft flash minnow, 95 Mr to be exact, is MS American shad. I like the 110 sp flash minnow, but fish the 95 a lot more. They dive about 2 ft from the surface and suspend when you pause your retrieve. As far as how I work the lure all depends on the day and tide. Warmer weather faster retrieves, colder I usually go slower, reel, reel, pause, reel, reel, reel, pause. I try and vary my retrieves to present a more erratic movement, keep varying until the fish tell me how they want it. If you have a reel with let's say a 5:1 ratio I find its perfect for this type of fishing. I like the daiwa luna personally if you're looking for a new reel or just an excuse to go get more fishing shit...haha

I also like fishing a drop shot for them as well, Berkley gulp and basstrix.

The lures are a little pricey and they are made for freshwater, if you decide to get some here is a link that shows you how to epoxy your lures to make the paint last longer.

Back in my younger days, a rolled up dollar bill worked for strippers, lol.(sorry, I couldn't resist)

Ah stripers, right now we're using bunker (pogies, menhaden, depending on where you're from)
We're chunking in deeper water. In a week or so till the end of the run, we liveline these baitfish around rockpiles in the shallows.
These bass put on quite a show when they're chasing a livelined bait.

Back in Upstate NY, we used herring for stripers. If we didn't catch bait fish, we trolled for smallmouth bass.

We used herring and alewives too till the state put a moratorium on them.
We also used mackerel , but they've become a non-existent fish in the Sound since they got wiped out offshore some 30 years back.

Caught off Catalina Island in California. Picture taken at the boat launch at end of an awesome day. The bite is on fire with this El Nino going.

Went up to Carson River to see what was left after the Washington Fire. Much of the willows and such along the river are still there, but there are many areas where the fire burned up both sides of the river. Hopefully they will get some grass or such seeded in before winter so the whole river doesn't get silted out. Did a little fishing while we were there. Lots of catch and release stuff and kept the ones that were not up to being released so we came home with our limits. My friend Gary caught this 23" 6.5lb Rainbow...was pretty cool, a guy was fishing with his 9 year old daughter near us and had issues with her rod. Her Dad was trying to get it fixed up when Gary hooked the Big Guy....he called her over and gave her his Rod (he did have to help her a bit) but she got to fight that fish and got him in...her Grin made the whole trip worth going...fun to see the youngster getting "hooked"...she was all ready to get after them after that experience!

At the 150 mark using a live mackerel (all they had at the bait barge). Probably gonna hit Seaforth this Sunday down in S.D. The 3/4 day anglers aboard The San Diego are absolutely crushing it off the Coronado's. Interested?
