Fishing out of a kayak?

About to pick up a nucanoe, had and cobra fish n dive

Gonna start rigging it up this weekend Hope to take it out soon. Still shopping around for a trolling motor and battery

 

Has anybody ever used or heard anything about the Emotion Stealth 10 Angler? Looking for a decent kayak to fish from.

This would be my first kayak and used for lakes and flats fishing.

 

It's an entry level kayak, would be just fine for flat water fishing use. I would look to get at least a 12 ft though just so you have some storage space. The 10 will work, but doesn't have a ton of space. You could always look at the regular version and then just rig it the way you want it to make it a "fishing" kayak.

 

Here's mine, I've got a pvc rod holder behind the seat, a Scotty rod holder fore of the cockpit, a home made anchor trolley system out of a few stainless pulleys, nylon rope, a 5 lb weight, and a cleat.

You don't need to be fancy, and most times it's cheaper to rig the boat yourself. Most of the"fishing" accessories are things you can easily make yourself for significantly cheaper with common stuff from home depot.

 

Picked up a Tarpon 140 this past Saturday. Headed out fishing with it on Friday.

 

Nice. Those are good looking boats. They are just so damn heavy though...

Good for a dedicated fishing kayak though

 

I have the tarpon 160 and you are right, it's a heavy bitch. Once it's in the water it's awesome. Carrying it down stairs etc down to beach breaks to surf launch it is a 2.5 man job

 

Loving my Ocean Kayak 13' Trident Angler. Have had it about 6 weeks now and have been out 4 or 5 times. Rigged it with a hummingbird finder and it's working great. Been considering a river trip - so far it's only been lakes and a few rivers but nothing overnight.

 

They are really nice, if I could justify getting one I would in a heartbeat. Mine sucks for surf launches, so we usually launch from a protected bay. For me right now, I need one that I can use for camping and fishing. Mines okay at both. The nice thing is it's pretty light, easy to drag across the beach or tidal flats.

But when things get choppy unless I have my skirt on it can fill up with water pretty easy since its got almost no freeboard

 

Interested to see if I can handle the 140 on my own this week. Had the Gf with me last weekend so it was no problem.

 

You could always make a cart for it. But that doesn't help with getting it up into your truck for transportation.

 

Here's my Trip 10 Angler by Old Town. It's pretty light weight and easy to maneuver. It also has a good bit of room in it.

 

My concern is getting it on and off the truck. If I can do that, I can hike it down to the water. Gonna do a dry run tomorrow evening.

Just ordered a few things for it this morning: rudder, anchor trolley, and anchor.

 

They do make those canoe/kayak racks that have rollers and rotate, though I don't know how well they would work with the tarpons hull design

Got it up there by myself this evening so I should be good to go.

 

Got a winch, you could always rig up some sort of redneck system with a few tree straps and snatch blocks to just pull it right up onto the roof


In all reality how much of a PITA was it to get it onto the topper by yourself? Did you just get the bow on the edge of the topper and then push it up the rest of the way?
