I use a pontoon boat on smaller Wisconsin lakes and streams. It is basically a seat between two torpedo shape air bladders. You have foot pegs, storage and oars. It is much, much more comfortable to sit in then the other alternatives. It is easier to row and maneuver and fits in my truck bed easily. You can hitch up a small electric trolling motor if you wish. lb.A small golf cart battery provides the poser. I can carry it into lakes very easily in that it weighs about 50 lbs. I leave it inflated permanently. It cost about $250 but you can get them in a wide range of prices. See Cabela's or Gander Mountain. Mine is a Fishcat Streamer. Of 4 different boats it is the one I enjoy the most.

It is definitely fun if you are by yourself. You can really get into the good spots without worrying about getting stuck. Plus it makes it more exciting when you are getting pulled around by the big ones......

I LOVE fishing out of my kayak!!! I'v got a 10.5' "catamaran" style SOT kayak.. It is extremely versitile, light-weight, and a blast to fish out of. I fully rigged it for fishing (rod holders, anchor system, cup holder;) and even a fish finder) I take it anywhere from the saltwater bays, rivers, and marshes to freshwater lakes and rivers here in NJ.
I HIGHLY recommend doing your research and getting into this sport.

    ALWAYS REMEMBER...SAFETY FIRST!!!

    Check out these websites:
www.kayakfishingstuff.com great forum w/ tons of info, and friendly as hell
www.surftalk.com ball busters but a great resource
www.kayakfishinggear.com decent prices wide variety of equipment

get out there and GL :)

Kayak fishing is a lot of fun. I started years ago with an Ocean Kayak Drifter and moved to a lighter Ocean Kayak Prowler. Now that I fish primarly in fresh water, I switched to a smaller and lighter Heritage Redfish 10. Go to kayakfishingstuff.com; it has all you'll need to know and more about gear and fishing, both fresh and salt, with members all over the nation.

I try to get out at least once or twice a week on my kayak. It is the greatest way to fish! IMO

Damn it figures the white seabass bite is going off and we have had multiple shark sightings along the coast and just this morning a surfer was attacked at Marina State beach. I planned on launching tomorrow? might stay home and do yard work instead. I normally dont get too worried about sharks, but it would be stupid to not take all the recent shark sightings into consideration............torn !!

    neglect, mostly.
wow i just found this thread. awesome pics you guys. those are some sweet setups. back home i lived maybe half a mile from a river. when i was younger my father bought some open face kayaks from tractor supply in the middle of the winter at like $75 a piece (were list price $300+). by the summer me and my brother had rigged them up with i bolts and bungee straps. took them out for years on saturdays. not always enough space, especially when i started growing, but we had a lot of fun fishing out of those. . . .. .and we could take them out there and flip them over and do back flips off them haha.

I just came across this sport in December. It must be the best kept secret around. Looking at picking up a Wilderness Ride 115 but need to figure out the best way to mount the thing. The guy at the shop thought roof top was a bad option as the kayak weights 90lbs. Anyhow, from what I see the OEM rack should be OK. I want the flexibility to tow my RV at the same time. So I figure most bed options are out.

Any thoughts on a kayak rack? How 'bout must have accessories? I bass fish lakes and ponds 95% of the time. Thanks!
