Rod for possible baitcaster

I'm still looking at which baitcaster to get but I was wondering if the berkley lightning shock series rods are any good. I saw one at Walmart for about $39.99. Also what length should I get for mainly bass fishing

 

You get what you pay for...i'm a shimano guy, i fish with curcials and cumara's ($170-$250) but if i were you i spend a little extra and get a shimano claurs they retail about $80...nice rods for the price and it comes with a lifetime warranty, most tackle shop here in town only charge $15 for a new replacement rod if you break yours.
and i would get a rod no shorter than 7" and if its your first rod get a worm and jig rod because more than likely you'll be fishing with plastics most of the time (senkos), and its pretty versitile..

 

I use to work at Berkley's (Pure Fishing is what it was really called). The shock series is alright for the price, Abu Garcia hellbender is also good. I mainly use the Fenwick Techna av but it's a bit more expensive. 7 foot is a good length for bass, I prefer closer to a 6 on a heavier rod but I mostly fish for good sized Pike. For a baitcaster get something in the Abu Garcia Revo line, whatever model suits your needs the best as they vary in price a bit but you will not be disappointed. Then load it up with some Fireline or Spiderwire and you'll be good to go.

 

How do I know if its a worm or jig rod?

 

Some rods are already bait specific, it will say it somewhere on the rod like crankbait, worm/jig...etc, but if it doesnt, you'll be looking for a rod with a medium power and fast tip to a medium heavy and extra fast tip...go on to tacklewarehouse.com and check out all the rods they have so you can get an idea of a rod you like then go to the nearest tackle store and just simply ask questions, im the first avid fisherman in my family so i had nobody to learn from so i just watched youtube and ask questions
