First trot line of the year!

Finally had enough time to run a small trot line this week. Didn't get to run a big one, but 4 fish ain't bad for the small amount of time it was out. The first two fish I had on the line when I was pullin them up shook the hook n I lost em. Just shakin off the cobwebs i reckon.Just finished stickin these cats in the freezer. Here in about two weeks I'll be tearin em up I hope. Just thought I would share.

biggest cat went 4 lbs. The smaller ones are better for eatin!

I've never eaten a cat...are they good?

That's a very Tennessean thing to do - no offense.

I also don't know what a trot line is. I suppose it's to catch a lot of fish for a lot of eat'n!

I guess I thought it was part of the 'down-south' cooking. There are lots of foods that are eat'n around here that are not in other parts of the country. I got that from Dirty Jobs when he went cat fish'n. He said exactly that! It was either Georgia or TN he was in.

Anyway, we don't get cats around here so we don't eat them.

Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have worded it how I did.

Just researched the trotline. We've done something similar when we go bluecrab'n in South Carolina.

Here is a fish that was caught on a 500lb test trotline:

We may have them...I don't know. I always catch carp off the bottom. Carp are nasty bottom feeders too. Around here, they get big enough to eat tires - and some of them do! Don't know anyone who eats carp!

i've got a lil secret for the way i do chicken livers, and them jokers dont fall of the hook for nothing, no matter how hard you sling them. i tell you though, chicken livers are good, but i have caught more catfish on mussels than anything else. and as far as shrimp goes...i spend a lil extra and buy some fresh shrimp..........they tear them up too.

Thanks for the tip... I never thought of mussels before!?! shrimp is great if you can find them fresh like you said... but, I find it very difficult to obtain fresh locally. I will have to try some mussels, of course those may be difficult to obtain as well!

When the water gets as warm as it will in your area try throwin the baits the guys mentioned to you on riprap. Catfish will spawn durin the hottest time of the year and you can wear em out on the riprap when they start to nest! Also if you can find a small river/creek runnin into a main lake channel the cats will stack up in those areas.

i use that method some, and it works pretty damn good, but the secret im talkin about involves salt, and them livers wont fly off the hook worth shit......makes them tough as hell.
