Miss Blue: Updated Often

Original Post: 07/07/2009 - Scroll down for chronological build.

I know...I know...creative name. For those of you who may be wondering, I stole it from a song of the same name by Filter. You can hear it here. Enjoy. Listening to it while viewing the thread seems to work surprisingly well.

So, let's get this thing started.

Gents (and ladies, what few of you there are), meet Miss Blue:

I took delivery on June 11th, 2009. She's a 2009 Double Cab Shorty packing the 4 Litre, TRD Cold Air, TRD Cat Back, and TRD Offroad package. She's also fully equipped to pull what needs pullin' with the V6 Tow Package. She's already had the rear leaf TSB done and the engine/front diff/rear diff/t-case were all moved over to Mobil 1 Synthetic at 1000mi.

Turn ons:
Baths, Less-is-More, Torquey engines, Jandrews.

Turn offs:
Small tires, people who drive slow in the left lane, smokers, dead batteries.

As an aside, her owner is also available in Speedway Blue:

We've spent a few weeks together now and we're learning to respect one another. I don't try to feed her anything less than premium fuel, and she doesn't try to cut my finger off when changing her t-case oil:

Anyway, aside from moving the engine, diffs, and t-case over to synthetic, I've done the following minor cosmetic stuff so far:

Trimmed Mudflaps

De-badged and Re-badged
Everything off, two put back on. The driver's side of the vehicle is completely clean:

And the passenger side now sports the V6 logo taken from the tailgate, placed where the Tacoma nameplate was:

I also relocated the tailgate "Tacoma" badge to center it above the tailgate handle.

07/15/2009: Engine Cover Painted
Here be the story of how it was done, and here be how show looks:

08/01/2009: TW Sticker!

08/16/2009: Rear Differential Breather Relocation

Relocated the rear diff breather to the gas filler. Used 3/8" ID 5/8" OD high pressure hose in a festive yellow for tubing.

10/10/2009: Shorty Antenna, Extra D-Rings

Finally got around to doing these after having the parts laying around for like a month. The shorty antenna came from Shorty Antenna Source, looks great, and works like a charm:

Borrowing an impact drill and compressor was the biggest challenge in getting the D-Rings in:

Grillecraft grille is still here and waiting to be installed. Got to get my hands on a color-matched grille surround first. Wet Okoles from the current group buy coming soon.

To Do List:

Near (months):
- New Grille.
- Wet Okole seat covers
- WeatherTech Digifit Floor liners
- ScanGauge II
- DT Short Tubes.
- BHLM or Clearcornered HLs (it depends)

Far (year or two):

- 3" lift/33" meats/Regear to get the power back with the bigger meats.
- Tom Woods CV shaft (with lift).
- Budbuilt/Allpro under armor.
- Drop the tubes and replace with sliders/nerfs.

Potentially (still hemming and hawing over whether or not I want to do them at all):
- Front and rear bumper replacement
- If front bumper replaced: winch.
- HID headlights + foglights

Definitely a good start. I like where you put the Tacoma on the tailgate I was thinking of doing something like that as well. I tested putting the Toyota logo under and didn't like that so I put the Tacoma logo there and didn't like it either but I like where you put it and I think that is where I'm gonna put mine! Good luck with the build can't wait to see moreeee

Great truck dude! I love how you re-badged it. Never seen it done that way before. I also know where these pics were taken .

Should only get cleaner. I'm very much a "have it and know you have it, but don't flaunt it" kind of person. I want this truck to be badass as hell, and I don't want anyone to be able to tell until I let it off the leash

And in relation to that...does anyone know where to get tail-lights that don't look horrible? The factory ones are not inspiring when you're looking for elegance, and the aftermarket options are even worse.

Seneca Rocks in that picture, but I've climbed all over NC and WV, as well as a two month stint in Arizona in 2007 (The Pit, Granite Mountain, Cochise, Groom Creek, Priest Draw, Paradise Forks, Oak Creek Overlook). Need to start making some raids into Kentucky and the TAG area, but deliverance-style hillbillies scare me.

Done some ice and smaller peaks on the east coast. Heading to Mt. Whitney next summer with a partner of mine and hopefully Yosemite for some Grade V big wall/aid action in 2011.

A couple moar samples from various trips:

Whitney, from a pure technical perspective, does not seem that bad. The big wall stuff will be more challenging in terms of technique and skill. Whitney will be more of a physical endeavor, because there's a lot less oxygen up there.

But we're gettin' sidetracked. Hopefully my grille gets here in the next couple days so I can re-align the thread within spec.
