98t's Pre2taco Build
So for a c-note I picked a non-running 1988 Toyota Pickup. It's an SR5 with a 22RE and a nice 5 speed 4x4 single cab. The previous owner told me that when it quit running, He was able to bump start it. Now, it doesn't run at all. The engine turns over and there is no code in the system.

I have verified the ignition is firing all cylinders, even though it could use new components (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). The cold start valve is firing. I have it narrowed down to a faulty fuel pump or a bad ECU. I am leaning towards the fuel pump. All the plugs have been dry when pulled.

I have just discovered the reason why she won't start-blown headgasket. I found a bad coolant hose, replaced it, and topped the radiator off. I noticed some "noises" when turning the motor over. They sounded like hydro-lock so I stopped and pulled the plugs. Yep, all four had water/coolant on them.

I suspect the previous owner ran it hot due to the size of the tear in the hose.

Let the tear down begin.

The head has been pulled and will need shaved. New timing chain set and gasket set on order. The headgasket is fubar. The #1 seal is actually broken. The oil pan was half full of coolant. This doesn't concern me to much as it hadn't mixed with the oil. It all appears to be topical.
