Steel casings is correct... Can you even get 7.62x39 in brass??

Yeah, they have 7.62x39 rounds with brass casing. Typically that type of ammo is used for AR's chambered in the 7.62 round. Brass is a much softer metal and is kinder to the AR extractors, than the steel round. Also brass ammo is not lacquered.
