WTB: 16in Black TRD Rims

I live in the SoCal/Los Angeles area. I'm looking to buy a set of the Black 16in TRD Rims. I've attached a photo below of the rims I'm looking for.

They is also a photo here:

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...d-bfg-ats.html

I can't seem to find them online anywhere. People around here have been such a great resource, so I figured it was worth a shot. Again, I live in the SoCal area, but I'm happy to pay shipping for wherever someone might have a set.

Thanks!

You can make these at a pretty reasonable price. The silver versions are readily available, $525/set IIRC. The take them, have the stripped and powder coated in a matter black. The caps are also available from the dealership too...about $5/each.

All said and done, cost me about $875 to make these from a set of silver ones.

Here you go again, Peter.

I do agree with Peter though. He and I both went this route. Mine turned out great and I'm sure his did also. I think I had about $900 in mine when all was said and done.

Peter,

That's a great idea, thanks for the heads up on that. Has anyone had much experience with powder coating on rims? How long does the coat typically last?

Also, does anyone have any recommends for places in southern California that would do this type of work?

Thanks!

Tim

If the wheels are prepped right, and cleaned properly before powder, should last a real LONG time!!!

Shouldn't be too hard to find a shop in S. CA, shop around for the best price. I took my wheels to two different places and both said they should NOT be bead blasted, had to be dipped. Some may have a different experience with that though. When they are stripped the castings are pretty rough.

Couple of questions on this - I am looking to possibly do this since the originals are pretty much impossible to find.

1. Blast or Dip? Any noticeable difference for those that have done it? Pics maybe?
2. What exactly is the difference between the silver wheel and the actually original wheel?
3. How well does the center cap match? Did you buy the caps first and have the coater match it?

Never got pics of anything after they were dipped, just know the blasting guys said the original powder was going to be too hard to get off as well.

Nothing, exact same wheels, different color.

I just had the powder guys use a standard matte black and the caps I ordered matched just perfectly. Seems like it would be pretty hard to screw up matching a matte black.

Personally...I think the allure to these wheels is just in the fact that they are hard to come by.

People are funny in that way.
