    You realize that oil companies are one of the biggest users of diesel right? That's what the drilling rigs engines run off.

    BMW, MB and VW all import diesels not to mention all the US truck makers have diesels. Toyota does not believe they would sell, the average American still thinks they stink, are noisy, slow and no one with in 100 miles has diesel fuel.

    Didn't you have to special order them, though? It was my understanding you could get one, but you would have to order it and have it imported. This was all before 1986 when the 22R-TE was introduced.

    Either way, my statement was too broad...it is definitely possible that it's factory, but very doubtful. I'm a skeptic to the core. :D

    No, the first ones were only in the long bed (why I don't know) I think it was '79' they were a stump pulling 62HP and the last ones showed up in 4X4's I think up to 87 they were turbo charged with out a whole lot more power. During that time just about every thing in Japan was diesel all with small engines when you were paying close to $5 for fuel speed was not a factor.
