I'm in the market for a shot gun for hunting season. looking for up and down (over/under) shot gun barrel but will consider semi-autos. I dont have much $$ to spend.

    Why up and down?

If you would consider a single barrel, and don't mind the plastic, I've been happy with my Benelli Nova 12 ga. that takes from 2.75 inch to a super magnum (3.5 inches). Only thing about it is it gets a little heavy at the range , shooting clay.

That was just general information. You can pick it up at a local sporting goods store for around $300-.

What will you be hunting...that would help, if you are going to shoot trap/skeet-that will be totally different story. That Nova is a great gun. It will shoot everything, you don't have to baby it. A great simple gun is a Remington 870, personally my favorite duck gun. I have filled the barrel with mud-frozen then thaw it out with my coffee, completely submerge it and still use all day with out a problem. It comes in several flavors and it is inexpensive...I would not consider it cheap.

And another thing what is your budget??? An O/U can be pricey AND the cheap ones feel just that...cheap. A very good O/U is a Beretta Black Onyx...EXCELENT gun with a lot of respect among shooters. You can pick up used ones reasonable. They to come in several grades. I would be proud to have one. Nova's are excellent shotguns for a great price.
