You could do that. However, If you get caught doing that you may have to try and sell it again.

    My first thought was ...

Should have gone to Jared's! :)

but honestly.... Retail Jewelry stores are the worst! Such INSANE markups. Better to go to a gold dealer or diamond dealer...

Put it in a safety deposit box or gun safe... Never mention it again... save it for the next one. She'll be a better one... and since the ring is for your fiancé... not that particular chick, it will be as good as new!!!

Here's to you and 2014!!! [IMG]

OP, can't you take it back and trade it for a man's ring? Most jewelry stores do that...

I know it sucks, been married three times, never once got the ring back...

Law in Texas requires woman to return engagement ring if she breaks off the wedding.

Had that happen once. I just put the ring in a corner until I was ready to try again with a new model. I used the ring to trade in when I bought the new ring and got full value for it. I know it's now cash now, but I didn't loose a ton of money either.

I think he means return it to Kays and you can get credit toward an upgrade to more expensive jewelry (a ring for yourself, perhaps?). I think you have to spend at least a third more than what you did on the engagement ring.

Kay has a decent trade in policy. They'll give you full blown retain back if you buy something that's more than twice as much money. The trade can only be 50% of the new product at most. (so if you bought something that cost $2k and want to trade it against something that's $4k, they'll give you the full $2k for your trade. If you want to trade it against something that cost $3k, they'll only give you $1,500 for your trade.)

OP, there's no time limit on this trade policy so, if you plan on getting married at some point, keep the rings. When the time comes, trade in the rings you have for a new one. You bought that thing when gold was pretty high so you might end up doing pretty well if you hang on to them for later.

I think I would be inclined to just hang onto it with the possibility of trading it on a new one latter before I'd sell it for any less then 1200 or so. Sure it means spending another 2 k but you'd be getting a 4 k ring set. Plus Kay is a pretty reputable place not like they are going to just close up shop.
