    I've got some not so exciting news and some very exciting (for some of us) news!

    The not so exciting news is that the paint shop that is painting the current kits in production has not finished re-painting them. I'm torn between remaking all of the kits this weekend and painting them myself (which would be about as expensive as the paint shop is charging to begin with) or to be patient.

    The very exciting news is that I am proud to reveal my take on a front loading iPad kit! This kit holds the iPad in via a tight pressure fit, as opposed to magnets as seen in other applications. The kit also comes with a docking cable attached to it, which plugs into the iPad when slid into place. The combination of these two things makes it superior to other methods because now, when you go offroading, hit a big bump in the road, or (god forbid) get in an accident, your iPad doesn't turn into a frisbee/projectile flying across your cabin!

    Please excuse the missing paint in certain areas of the kit. Some light modifications were necessary to this model to make stuff fit, the parts comprising the kit have already been amended in design and are being printed now.

    Check it out;

    IMG_1627_zps4b3ea539_775d6c95ea7734c38f95dbadf460e4bd632ca93e.jpg

    IMG_1626_zpsacec2cb4_fe78b3798f0a25dbb9b3cf394f06dbf2a4d93b54.jpg

    And here is a short video showing the insert / removal of the iPad;

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsyrB7g_T9k

    This new style kit features my recently perfected 100% ABS plastic fabrication method. This means that there are no mechanical bonds present in the kit, and all pieces comprising the construction of the kit have been designed by yours truly, and are created using a 3d printer. Once all of the bonding and touch up work is done, these kits may as well be made out of one solid piece. These kits are as uniform and perfect as it gets.

    Notice that there is a large area between the upper and lower supports. This allows for a Single DIN radio to be placed behind that area, which can be accessed and used when the iPad is not in place.

    I am now accepting orders for this style of kit for $445, painted any color of your preference.

    This kit requires some modifications to be done in the vehicle for it to fit properly. The dash piece surrounding the radio needs to be modified like this;

    IMG_1621_zpsce72823a_65ccebd08856ca137baa1bad039b6f6d0dfb27ff.jpg

    This can be done inside of the truck, or out with the dash piece removed. I recommend removing the dash piece and making the modification on a work bench. Removing the dash piece, using a rotary tool with a cutting/grinding disc, and replacing it can be done in about 10 - 30 minutes depending on your knowledge and skills with this type of stuff.

    You will also need to cut a small hole on the inside edge of the same piece, where your charging cable will be. The charging cable needs to be able to recess, slightly, into that area. This modification can not be seen once the dash is fully assembled, even with the factory radio in place.

    You should be! I'll be sending you tracking info tomorrow.

    As for the rest of the kits;

    I went to go pick them up from the painter tonight and I was much happier with the quality of the paint. Except... The guy mixed up the colors on the kits. Flat kits went Glossy and Glossy kits went flat. He's fixing them, but that will be the last time this shop gets any of my business. After two shops failing to meet my expectations now, I'm just going to go ahead and start painting these myself. So I'm building a spray room this week and dropping about $800 on equipment / supplies to start painting on my own.

    Great and here I was thinkin I finally bought everything I wanted for my stereo. I'm seriously considering buying an iPad mini just to buy this kit lol. Sorry if I'm being lazy and not going through the entire thread but how is everything hooked up to my speakers/ sub? What will everything be hooked up if i no longer have a headunit? Thanks

    Haha, it really does change the whole look of the dash and it adds a TON of functions. It can also greatly improve your sound quality.

    Since you already have a full aftermarket system, there are a few ways that you can integrate it with your stereo. Each way offers different features. I'll attempt to break it down without leaving anything out.

    You can use an aftermarket head unit behind the iPad
    This will allow you to retain:
    Bluetooth hands free calling
    Bluetooth streaming Audio
    AM/FM/HD/SAT radio
    CD player
    iPod/USB input
    aux in

    I recommend, and sell, Sony radios for this. Specifically ones that support AppRemote. This allows you to control the different sources of the head unit from the iPad itself.

    You can use a home audio iPod dock
    This will allow you to retain:
    Steering wheel controls
    .... That's pretty much it.

    But, it gives you the opportunity to use a really high end iPod dock with a quality digital to analog converter, or opens up doors like supplying your high end audio processor (like an Audison Bit Ten/One) with a digital optical sound input. It gives you a single RCA output for your amps, which you can distribute to as many as you want. You CAN retain hands free bluetooth depending on what equipment you choose / how you wire it. This method is a bit more advanced but it has its benefits for those who value them.

    I offer pre-harnessed packages of both of the options mentioned above. I base my pricing off of the lowest prices for each item in the packages found on the internet, and a labor charge which varies depending on how intricate the harness is. I solder all connections made for the harness, and the finished product is as close to plug and play as it gets.

    The price of $445 includes the Sony radio? Also is there anything behind the mount or are you able to just see all the wires when the iPad isn't mounted? I'm local so this is tempting

    The $445 includes the dash / trim kit only. The back of the kit is left open so that you can still access and operate a radio. It'd be very easy to put a backing on it, though.

    Since you're local, I'd be willing to help you with the install portion of it. And if you wanted to check it out in person, I'm out in LA pretty frequently. Will definitely be out there one evening next week.

    Bump

    3 kits ordered so far for the next production batch. Trying to get up to 5.

    All kits in the current batch will be sent out next week unless seller has requested that the kit be held.

    Hey Luis,

    To make the iPure work in a 12v application, you'll need a 12v to 7.5v step down transformer.
