FS: 09 BHLM Headlights
Please make sure that you read the entire post so you know what you are getting.
The good: Headlights from 2009 Prerunner with BHLM done. No scratches, breaks, or missing tabs. They are structurally sound. $95 shipped The bad: Some fogging on the top 1-1.5 inches. Left HL has some Silicone sealant drips on the lens (see pics), right HL has no sealant or drips. Pics show bulbs, but no bulbs included. The story: I did the BHLM several months ago. All went well, complete black-out of the chrome trim ring with Plasti-Dip, next to no visible chrome scratch through on re-assembly. Re-installed HLs and got some fogging on top as described above. Left it alone for a couple of months and then went in to clean up fogging and re-seal the HLs. On assembly of left HL, I screwed up and pushed the pieces together (after heating) lens side down which caused the Silicone drips on the lens of the left HL. After the drips, I decided I was done with this, reassembled both HLs; left with silicone and drips, right with no silicone or drips, and ordered a new set off of eBay. See the pics for the drips, but note that the fogging as descibed above did not photograph worth a crap. Any questions, let me know. Please post back to this thread if interested and I will PM you back. Rod... |

Sure would have thought that some enterprising soul would have put a bit of cash, some sweat equity, plus maybe some automotive butyl tape (google it) to clean up and re-seal these lights.

how bad is the fogging? and could i just replace the lenses with the ones from my current 09 lights, seal them up well and be all set?

The fogging was a light band about 1.5-2.0 inches across the top. You could replace the lenses definitely. To be honest though, I would just clean up the ones on mine as it's just a couple of drops of silicone which should clean up with a bit of Goo-Gone. To be clear (no pun intended...) the fogging is a result of it not being fully sealed.
Like I said in the OP, I just didn't want to mess with them any more. By not opening your's up, you don't mess with a HL that's known good. Leave it alone to resell later. To be honest, if these don't sell, I will probably order a bit of the butyl tape and clean up and re-seal them myself, but since I now have a working set that I like, I don't really have a high desire anymore. I would like them gone, but definitely can't just throw them out,,, that just seems too stupid, even for me. Rod... |

Isn't there supposed to be a piece of semi translucent plastic covering where the turn signal socket is (to the inside of the headlight)?

Toren..., good point. On the 09's onward the plastic piece is actually slightly yellow. I took it out since I didn't like the yellow-ish. I do have the original piece and it will go with the lights.
