I would like to buy a new color matched grille from TRDParts (I think this is the place) and ship it to you to have this done. Let me know if this will work for you. If it is alright I will have to buy the new one so it could take a week or so for me to get it. Another couple days to ship it to you. That would put it about 2 to 3 weeks out. Let me know. I have no issue paying you in advance for your services.

Thanks, IIRC there is a certifit supplier in San Diego, thats the only one i know about. Did a google maps search and didnt find any near me, sorry.

TRDparts is where I got my color matched grille a couple years ago, they are good people to work with. Sounds like a good plan, just pm me so there is a paper trail.

I few people have and they look good. it all depends on the prep work and the clearcoating. If you buy the correct paint and apply it correctly, it should match the rest of the truck.

Nice, I almost went there but seeing as I grew up in Santa Clara I wanted to be a little farther from home.

    UC Davis ftw!

I have been doing some research on a concern of mine on doing a satoshi grille and color-matching the grille surround in one go. When painting the grille surround or the inner recessed surround, the other portion needs to be taped. A color matched satoshi mod requires both surfaces to be painted. 3M tape does not recommend taping over paint that is less than 3 months old. Given I use kylon fusion paint on the inner recessed surround and it dries relatively fast, I plan to paint the inner surround first, wait at least 24 hours, and cover that part up with as much newspaper and as little tape as I can along the edges as possible. This will most likely add another day in my turnaround time.

I will be working on a grille like this very soon and I will let everyone know how taping over 24 hours fresh kylon tape turns out.

well, you could always separate the color/chrome part from the black part of the grille and the plastic weld back together when your done. this would make painting so much easier!

^ I was thinking about that, dremeling the two sections apart, but a plastic welder is a hell of an investment...i might look for one on CL, but I have not used one before. I think for now I just need to be really delicate when taping

you dont need to dremel (as far as i know), i think its just those clips on the backside. get a knife and bend the tabs back and then just cut the parts that are welded together. i belive you can use a simple soldering iron to weld them back together. maybe throw on some epoxy for good measure?

I saw this on youtube and it looks like I can do it with a soldering iron. I might try to take mine apart and put it back together before doing it on others just to be sure.
