Taco Lean vs Dealership

So my truck is just over 1 year old, with the stock 4 leaf pack, and is suffering from a horrible case of the taco lean. I didn't really know what do about it, until after having a bad day today, i decided to go to the dealership to take my rage out. As you fellow Canadians know, we pay a lot of these TRD tacomas, to having them leaning over (mine was 3/4" difference) after just over a year. The guy there told me he personally has never seen anything like it, after taking a quick look. I assured him I treat this truck better than my girlfriend most of the time (true story haha) so they offered to take a look, and more than likely fix it under warranty. I realize it will just happen again, but I'm thinking that my Renegade 800 (600lbs dry weight) may have sped the leaning process along, and hopefully I can get some more time out of their fix, before putting my money in it.

My question is: Has anyone else had their truck in for the taco lean under warranty? If so did they fix it under warranty?

 

Yeah.. custom AAL's are gonna be my back up plan, but i'm hoping maybe they'll replace my leaf packs. The guy seemed pretty interested in doing whatever i asked when i started making a scene haha. But for what i paid for this truck, and 1year into it, it should sit level.

 

I got a bit of a lean. Fuck it though I'm gonna put airbags on it one of these days.

Yeah, i did think about airbags, but i read somewhere on here that to get enough height out of them to correct the lean, you need to put so much psi that it makes your ride really stiff with no load, or trailer. If that is true or not may be a different story.

 

I don't think it would be that much more I'll find some numbers

 

50 psi is supposed to support 2500lbs thats 1250 a bag so 25lbs per psi. So 5ish psi would support the weight.

says here each psi in the bags supports 50lbs or load so that matches up for 25lbs per psi for each bag.

 

Nice.. so however much 21gal of gas, battery and driver weights total.. and set it to that psi on the drivers side? I might look into getting some to keep the lean away after it gets fixed

 

I read either on here or TTORA one guy was running 5psi in the pass side and 7-8psi in the driver's.

I second the airbags. it is by far the best mod i have done to the taco. I run it around 7psi unloaded. For the winter when i put some bags of sand in the bed for extra weight, i just plan to increase the psi to level the truck out.

I went with the firestone kit and highly recommend it. Installed in about 4 hours. It has greatly increased the loaded drivability of the truck. Drove from Baltimore to Ottawa with a motorcycle in the back + a trailer and the airbags at 25 psi. The truck drove and brake'd like it was unloaded. Beats the stock suspension hands down!

 

Nice info!.. I was reading the other day about putting some sort of anti-freeze in the bags for the winter? Is that true, or do you do that?

 

Justin - you dont need antifreeze int he airbags. They are simply filled with air, just like your tires and hold up fine in the winters. Next time you are driving behind a semitruck, look at the airbags on top of the axel. They have been around forever and work pretty well!
I dont have an OBA setup yet, so i use a bicycle pump and a tire pressure gauge to inflate them and i like it.

 

It helps to run a bit of antifreeze through the lines because compressed air will result in condensation (aka: water) in the lines.

With regards to the Canadian market, I looked at an American model that was advertised as TRD but no 17" rims, no TRD decal, and no real proof that the alternator was upgraded and oil cooler etc.. too dodgy for me. I ended up at a Toyota dealer and am very happy with My TRD, Liking the new grille ! but there is no Chrome rear bumper or chrome front grille!!

 

there are two TRD models offroad has 16in wheels chrome grill and rear bumper rear locker sport seats blah blah blah and TRD sport colour matched grill and rear bumper scoop sport seats with 17in wheels

If you have a canadian TRD double cab with a manual its a sport with a 5 ft box

Also the off road model is only available in access cab (prob because the smaller wheel base is better for off road)
But.... I have seen in Ontario the same truck as mine but with chrome !
Also TRD is supposed to have all of the SR5 package- (chrome) Plus the TRD sport.

I think there has been an over sight in the literature. I will investigate.
