I just bought a 2013 v6 with the towing package but need a brake controller installed. The dealer wants $300+ to supply and install. Is this a good price or is there a reliable local shop that could do this?

I saw Pro Truck and Custom Truck parts mentioned in an earlier thread. Are they possible options?

Dude, it is stupid easy. Connect the 4 brake controller wires to the harness that came with your truck, mount it, and plug it in behind kick panel.

I will elaborate a little more, because paying someone to install this is not necessary IMO.

There should be a pigtail in your glovebox with 4 wires and a plug on one end, for the brake controller. Tie the corresponding wires together, prodigy controllers come with crimp connectors. Mount the controller in a suitable location, it needs to be horizontally level and easily viewable/accessible. Plug the Toyota pigtail into the brake controller harness, tucked behind the kick panel next to the door.

You don't even have to splice wires. I ordered my prodigy controller from a popular online trailer site and for a couple more bucks I got an adapter cable that made the whole deal plug-n-play.

Good point, the adapters make it too easy lol. Hardest part is finding where to mount it.

It takes 10 minutes to install, reach up behind the fuse panel and get out the plug, plug in the controller, screw it to your dash..

Spend the rest of the money on camping beverages.

I installed a Curt TriFlex with the adapter wire harness (Action Car & Truck Accessories)

The hardest part of the install was trying to locate the OEM plug behind the driver kick panel. It was buried in electrical tape in the OEM harness. I too mounted mine under the left side coin tray, and it doesn't have to be level.
