Rear main seal

Finally got the trans out to find the rear main crank seal is not the big oil leak I thought. Looks like the rear of the pan is leaking. Should I go ahead and replace the rear main seal as I have it? Looks like the clutch was close to change so I don't feel so bad pulling the tranny.
What's the silver can on the drivers side of the 3.0 V6 that's the shape of a oil filter bolted to the block?
