No you never know - how many times have I experienced the same kind of ignorance and idiocy from fellow Canadians.
This attitude is not uncommon coming out of Canada's unofficial capital/turdhole, but the worst I came across was a tool from Port Alberni. I'm doing his regular appraisal at work and he starts asking why people from my province are the stupidest, laziest etc etc.
    His career was short.

We don't differenciate people due to their skin colour , so I guess I wouldn't know .

Is a "Newfy" the Canadian equivalent to an American "redneck"?

No not at all. A "Newfie" means you hail from the provience of Newfoundland. If you want to find rednecks in Canada look in Alberta, its full of cowboys and rednecks. I should know im a Newfie

I was aware of the Province and name correlation, I had always heard that "Newfies" were.........well............ "special".

most of canada probably considers alberta or even saskatchewan the red neck provinces because some of guys will go and work in the oil fields and make a ton of cash buy f350's lift them 10 inches, put 40 inch tires and put a nice set of truck nuts on the hitch. or blow all there money on coke.
