Oil Change

Hey guys,

So I just wanted to ask the Canadians on here how much L of oil you put in? I am very aware that it's supposed to be 5.4 or 5.5 quarts, but that's like 5.2 L of oil. So, should I buy a 5L jug and put it all in? Or do I need to buy a 5L and a 1L so I can put the extra .2L?

Thanks in advance,
Shoghi

racerxtaco 12-22-2011 02:28 PM

just put the 5L in. the .2 L should still be in there from whatt doesnt drain out

Just found out I bought 4.4 litres. Not 5. I guess I need to buy 1 more litre anyways :o

Costco. They have sales on Castrol Syntec every few months or so. 6x1 Litre packs for $30 (Reg $36-$39) Buy 3-4 cases and call it a day.

That said, I put in 5 and leave it at that.

Yeah my dad actually buys these for his car from Costco. I wanted to go with mobile 1 though, I heard it was the best?

Meh. Apples and apples. So long as you're going with a respected brand I don't think you can go wrong.

If you're changing it every 5000kms you could put shit oil in there and still be good to go. Yanks only change theirs every 8000+ kms if not more.

You think? Okay, I guess then it doesn't matter. It cost me 49 bucks for 4.4L of oil, now I am gonna have to go spend another 10 bucks for another 1L, then the filter cost me 8 bucks. So that's almost 70 bucks... The mobil 1 shop here charges 85 to do the full oil change with synthetic. Almost not even worth it.

40 bucks for a case would be nice.

Krazie Sj 12-22-2011 04:05 PM

Like I said, wait and get it for $30. (Are our filters $8? I thought I paid like $5 at Toyota for them...)

Toyoghi 12-22-2011 04:10 PM

The one I bought from toyota was like 7.38 or something after tax :0

Just make sure you don't change the oil via the radiator.

Funny?

I've changed the oil in my previous car myself for the past 3 years?

But thanks asshat

Krazie Sj 12-22-2011 04:57 PM

He's making fun of my first oil change.

I accidentally removed the tranny bolt instead of the oil. And because I was expecting Green Radiator fluid and not the pink long life stuff, I then proceeded to pour my freshly drained transmission fluid into my coolant reservoir.

But yes, he is still an asshat regardless. :p

Holy moly Krazie, Good one!

I apologize for my rudeness will, but apperantly you're still an asshat, so I guess I wasn't completely wrong :D

Why do people run past 5000kms per change when toyota calls to change every 5000kms . A mechanic told me thats why toyota was having those sludge problems.

Cause then Toyota can bill you 3000kms sooner for oil changes.

Oil Filters

I went to pickup an oil filter at CDN Tire. Apparently there are issues with oil filters designed for the Tacoma that have leaky seals. I think the model number is 3614. I know the phram and motomaster brands have issues.

What is everyone using? I think Toyota would be the best but I really don't want to pay the crazy premium $$ for OEM brands.

Also what oil is everyone running? I think I will go with 5w 30.

I do most of my driving in central Ontario.

5W30
Toyota OEM filter

I use Amsoil in the engine (0w30), the tranny and the diff. Been using the AMS product in all my vehicles including my ATV for 25 years. http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/Produ...OYOTA+TACOMA+Z
