Yeah we have the diesel vs gas discussion monthly it seems. Right now we only have a modded '04 TJ Rubicon on 35s to tow... although possible to need to tow 2 rigs if we go ride with others. ATV in the near future too.

Yeah I hear you. But the wife gave me the go ahead to get what I want next year. Because I let her get her car she's always wanted. But I keep trying to convince her to let me start this year. She keeps telling me to be patient. It's driving me nuts.....

Yeah if you are going to be towing over long distances with weight I feel the diesel is the way to go. I have the same convo and argument in my head for when I pay the subie off. I split some days I want the Tundy and others I'm set on the dodge 2500-3500.

I just bought some Atv's if you get some we need to ride! I bought kawasakis a 750 for my self and a 650 for the wife. They are both fast, the 750 is crazy fast though.

Pay the few bucks to have someone use a real spring compressor. I know it will cost a little but it is worth it in my opinion especially with aftermarket springs like the ome. There is so much power stored inside of them that it can kill you or someone around you very easily. I had mine done at G AND S Machine shop in Littleton. They did a great job and charged me like 30 bucks. Dropped off the springs and shocks and picked them up about 2 hours later.

They really aren't that bad. I have done several and I'm far from a
Mechanic. My first ones I did with a harbor freight spring compressor that took some arm strength. But the auto zone ones have worked great with an impact on it.

Yup the tow distance is defo talked about. ..then the outweigh of diesel maintenance costs also. JT has diesel mechanic training so it wouldn't be as bad, but still a slight factor. Long distance driving right now would include KOH (cali) one a year then however many Moab trips (prob at least 4x/yr). chokecherry is only an hour away, & Rubi is still considered a DD but don't want to wear her tires down prematurely. if he ever decided to run Dirt Riot them it would be a completely different story lol

We're just going to wait a year for the diesel tundra to come out. Both problems solved :D

It's mixed stories. They say 2016, we've talked to some that have said no and some that said yes.

Well I would say that if it's something they are planning on selling they would have been sending their techs to school by now. Being that Toyota has a school for everything they sell and what not. You would assume the training would be offered already it they are a year out on selling.

What type of tire are you wanting,or what are you going to be doing and why these two brands are the questions.

I've always ran BFG All terrain but I'm thinking about Dick cepek fun country for the next round. Truck sees a lot of dirt roads due to work. But the all terrain doesn't clean out as well as I would like it to.

Have you looked at the cooper st maxx, or the more aggressive stt.

Edit: the st maxx is along the Same line as the dick cepek and BFG at. The stt is more like a duratrac.

I have the AT's... never had a complaint other than on ice and thick mud... but I've heard GREAT things about the Goodyear Duratrack. the only negative I've heard is weak sidewalls when running low pressure... which I never do. probably going to be my next tire.

The diesel Tundra aren't going to break. So why train the techs for something they will never see? :D
STT is a mud terrain tire. Duratrac's are All Terrain's.

If you get Duratracs get the E rated ones. Side wall issues solved. The C rating ones blow.
I've got E's and they worked fine on the Gulches the other day. Aired them down to 20lbs and had no issues at all. Plenty of grip on the rocks, cleaned out nicely in the mud and snow on the trails, and in general are well behaved on pavement. Slightly louder than the original BFGs that were stock, but nothing that any level of noise in the cab can't drown out.
