    Anyone done it?

    Legal steps?

I have a 1st gen extra cab and want to swap to a Double cab so it's not as easy as transferring a VIN plate.

I'm in Adams county if it matters.

Technically the vin goes with the frame, not the cab. When I would swap cabs I would get a vin sticker from toyota to make it legit. You need to cut the vin out of the cab and bring it to a dealer with the title to get another sticker.

But will that work on a extra to double cab since the vins are different?

I'm sure its that easy, I have seen double cab S-runners from a cab swap fully legit before.

I wonder what state they were in that they did that.

I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for a double cab to get the parts together to swap it over.

It could be the only Supercharged 5 speed double cab.

That is my plan if I ever see one cheap enough. Purchase it with blown drivetrain or bent frame.

    Well it's going to happen.....

Hopefully I don't have to cut my old cab vin tag out so I can sell it easier. I will have titles for both trucks to get the sticker from Toyota.

I will be using the extra cab frame so I would ASSume I will need to use the extra cab title. Or just do it and not worry about it.

Look for a VIN on the frame. They quit stamping them with some of the Tacoma trucks in the late 90s. It would be on the passenger front right where the tire would rub when turning full lock right. If there is no stamped vin, I wouldn't bother switching the VINs on the cab. Non of the 2nd gens have stamped frames.

I'll have to check, I think my 2001 Xtracab has it stamped in the frame.
