Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006. This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.

It's not clear if customers will receive the same version of their original iPod nano or if they are required to send in their old iPods. We reached out to Apple, but have yet to get a response.[IMG]

I didn't know the early nano's looked so much like the original

    [IMG][IMG]Dear iPod nano owner,

Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.

This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.

Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted below to order a replacement unit, free of charge.

Note: This battery issue is specific to the iPod nano (1st gen) and does not affect any other iPod.

    Replacement Process

You may order a replacement unit via the web. Click here to begin.

Your iPod nano serial number will be checked to verify that it is eligible for this program. You will receive a replacement unit approximately 6 weeks after we receive your current iPod nano (1st gen).

If you have a personalized iPod nano, you will receive a non-personalized replacement. Make sure to use iTunes to back up any data on your current iPod nano before sending it in for a replacement unit.

    Additional Information

Identifying an iPod nano (1st gen):

It has a black or white plastic front and a silver metal back - later iPod nano models have a metal front and back.

If you need assistance with placing an order, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) and bring your iPod nano with you for serial number validation.

Your replacement iPod product is warranted to be free from defects for 90 days from the date of service.

Thank you for participating in this program.

    Sincerely,

    Apple

ok so this is a little bit of a rant, i came home got my nano entered the serial number and they are automatically sending me a box to mail it back in...didnt even let me know if it qualified or not...

second i call tech support and another number to talk to someone and ask them what my replacement is going to be and they want to charge me 29.99$ to ask someone a freaking question!!! omfg are you kidding me right now, im not paying 30 freaking dollars to ask a damn question, what the hell is wrong with them!

third, they for sure as hell are not gonna send me 129$ 6th gen nano, when i paid 199$ for mine new! thats BS! so if anyone has any info as to what the replacement is that would be greatly appreciated. if not...they are going to have one not happy customer showing up at their store and if i have to drive an hour plus to get there, which is the closest one...oh buddy, i feel sorry for those poor people.

It did the same thing for me...I'm ok with it because I bought mine used for $50. I'll just sell whatever I get returned to me since I already have a 30 gig and 150 gig iPod, plus my iPhone...

well thats what i want to know, even though i bought it in 06, i new used it a lot only when i travel and fly really, so in the 5yrs ive had it, ive maybe used it for 2, ya know, mine still works perfect, and if they are replacing it with the new nano, i dont want that tiny thing, ill just keep using mine till it acts up.

i dont think (or atleast i hope) they wouldnt replace something with another item that is 70$ cheaper
