I wouldn't trust a $15 radar detector. For anyone actually wanting a detector I'd stick with a higher end brand like Escort, Valentine, or a higher up Cobra model. I've had cheap ones in the past and you get what you pay for. They don't do much good if you see the cop before the detector goes off lol.

I bought a cobra on Black friday 2 years ago for 35 (normally 60) bucks and I must say it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. Yes, it does off in town for automatic doors, but city mode takes care of that. And you learn immediately the areas when it's detecting a door or something. In the 10 mile radius I drive daily, there's only about 2 or 3 spots so it isn't bad at all. I was really surprised when it picked off cops half a mile away around corners. That impressed me. Long, straight roads you get at least 3/4 to a mile warning. I never drive without it. I haven't gotten a ticket since  I work customer service at Best Buy and I've seen a fair amount of people returning the expensive ones complaining that their range was horrible. I guess I get lucky with mine. :D
