I was wondering the same thing. For now I'm just going to use the wired controller and will be wiring up some in-cab controls. If for whatever reason that doesn't fit my needs, I'll go pick up the wireless remote. I did read decent reviews of the wireless remote fwiw

The 3 year warranty was $79.99 FYI... So for $209 + $80 + $150 (synthetic line) + $75 (fair lead and hook), I think you get a pretty decent setup.
Now that we are getting a little closer to sping. How are you planning to mount you winch? Are you going to do a behind the bumper setup, get a new bumper, or something entirely different?

I'll be going with something like LINK, but specific for the 12+ Tacoma. So it's sort of an OEM bumper winch mount integration, not behind the bumper, but not a whole new bumper. Still deciding between getting it made up in steel or aluminum. He was hoping to have these ready mid-Feb, but I'm not sure how far he's gotten.

I forgot that it's 2015 now, making this thread is a year old now.. oh well. I got a notice that the 12000 pound winch will be on sale via parking lot deal. There's also a 25% off coupon floating around this month. The coupon can't be used at the event. The sale price is $292.44 I'm not sure if that's a super deal on the winch but if it is or isn't I'm sure someone will chime in. The coupon can be used with the 9000 pound winch bringing the price down to $225. Not as cheap as cyber Monday, but if you want it now...

So yeah, is a 12000# winch needed for a Tacoma, or is the 9000# more than enough? I don't mind the larger price if it's needed, but if I can get away with saving money that can go towards the warranty and lesser weight, great.

If the reviews are right I wouldn't think a 12k which would be needed. Old fords weigh way more than a tacoma. They were all steel.

I think I read to go 1.5 times the weight of your truck.

Cool, that's 10 pounds right there. Any ideal how much weight is shaved off by going synth instead of steel cable?

Somehow the winch ended up in the bed of my truck today. No idea how that happened...now just to see it make its way to the front of the vehicle...
