'02 fenders; paint or not?

I detest my plastic looking fender "skirts", and want to paint them. Any tips about painting plastic that stays in the sun, and is rained on constantly?? I don't have a garage, and the plastic looks faded when I let the armor-all wear off, and when it rains, the armor-all just runs and leaves it full of streaks of gray on the dark plastic.
