Guys, this stuff will NOT come off with a sponge or if you "brush" up against it. It's extremely durable. If you waack it with a hammer, yes, it will scrape, but you could always reapply it with no prep. I wash my front end of my truck with a brush that has moderately stiff bristles and it does not damage the Plasti-dip.

Good to know...thanks Brandon. I like it cause you can just touch it up if it comes apart. It is fairly easy. I was thinking of covering my axe with it just to protect it from the elements.

did my front valance last night and it came out great. very easy to apply and if you get any over spray you just rub it off. good to hear it can be washed without worrying about it peeling off.

I like this stuff too! I painted the inner parts of my fogs with it but now on my drivers side, it is peeling just a tiny bit in the lower front but I think a rock or some debris hit it and scrapped it a little bit. I'm not to worried about it cause if it gets worse, I'll just peel it off and redo it.

1 can... don't remember how many coats. I just kept going with short breaks in between until the can was empty.

I also pulled the bumper completely and removed the lights and plastic so no masking for me. Better have a decent sized ratchet and a friend if you go this route though.

Never thought of using it as "paint" but it is indeed some very useful stuff. I made a metal roof rack for our Caddy that clamps onto the existing rails and covered all the contact points with several coats of this stuff. Works great to prevent scratches.

So I painted my door emblem, the texture came out pretty rough, so I thought I would just peel it off and start over. So I let dry and pealed it off.

I have a couple problems. I cant get the bits that tore off and are still under the emblem but are still visible. The other problem is, it left a residue on the paint. Mostly in the middle of the letters thats a pain to get off even with tar and bug remover.

It almost looks like I'm going to have to remove the emblem and clean everything up to get it back to original.

Any ideas from the people who have done this before on what I'm doing wrong?

So I grabbed cold one, relaxed for a minute and answered my own questions.

So for the residue, its 4 years of road grime(poor lighting is all I have to work in) I did clean the emblems but did catch the slight dullness at first.

As for getting out the pieces stuck behind the emblem... A crap ton of tar and bug remover will loosen it up.

So how did you get your to come out so well? Ive been trying tonight without much luck.

Whats happening is, if I spray it to light, its almost impossible to peel off the paint because it tears off in little pieces. If I spray it heavy, it has a nasty looking rough texture on the badges

I'm almost thinking the best thing to do would be to pull the badges, paint them, and then put them back on... Even more of a pain.

I can see how it would be great on large surfaces, but its a no fun on smaller detailed stuff like the badges.

Even worse is getting it off the black paint without scratching it.

As a substitute for a toothpick, I took a spray tube from a spray can and cut it a angle so it has a sharp point. That works great for getting in the middle of the letters and peeling the paint up. It's just soft enough that as long as your careful it won't scratch the paint.

The other pointer is, don't be afraid to spray it a little heavy. It's much easier to peel up when its thick enough that it doesn't just brake into small pieces.

Also, hold the can pretty close. If you hold out more than a few inches it gets a bunch of really small air bubbles in it that give it a nasty texture.

That's my lessons learned the hard way.

I want to do my front bumper valence with this. That's a good sized area. If I later decide to get rid of it can it just peel off leaving everything the way it was? I don't have any experience with this.
