Damn. I really need to do something with my wheels. My offroad wheels are chipped, flaking, and peeling all over the place. i'd have to put in some serious effort before dipping them or painting them, but they look so good.

Is it ok to sand my TRD OR wheels to get rid of the flaking and peeling before I plastidip them? The plastidip will still adhere, right?

so just sand with sandpaper. I probably don't want to use a wire brush wheel on a drill then, right?

If your rims are really beat to hell then yes do sanding wire brush wheel to smooth it out but if your rims are in good shape dont scratch them with a wire wheel

They just have alot of the paint flaking off on the inner pieces, and the insides are all torn up, so the insides will definitely get sanded. and the inner pieces too. I'll leave the outside face alone though.

Here's the worst damage on my wheels. Should I sand that before I plasti dip them?

Try it. You definitely want the surface to be smooth as possible!

    The better coast
    So.....

I want to PD my bike (no time soon).

If I dip the frame and then stencil off lettering/logos and dip those, will the base layer be messed up by taping it off?

Masking and removing of such is absolutely horrible with plasti dip. I did my cap T handles and had to mask off the lock cylinder....i ended up cutting the dip away from it to get the tape back off the lock face. And the dip balled up over time around where the two pieces of the handle rotate opposite of one another.... Masking off and doing one side at a time would be horrid

By all means try it but don't get mad and rip it all off, take your time

Need more details on this one. What color (Looks gunmetal, but probably just flat black), how'd you do the red emblem, how many coats?

Anthracite grey... Not sure how many coats but I used 4 full cans. Used note cards around the bead of the wheel/tire and taped them together.

Spent the most time with prep... scrubbed them with simple green twice, washed with dawn twice and washed them off with denatured alcohol. Maybe overkill but it's holding up.

The emblems you can head up or break the tabs on the back and paint. I put them back with hot glue so that I could remove them easily and repaint a different color if I changed my mind.

Thanks for the props I love the look :D
