Bed Bolts

Have not got my Taco yet. Next Wednesday HOPEFULLY!!! My Ford ranger bolts that hold the bed on are rusted all to heck. The bolts on the Taco seem to be the same kind. Is there some way to seal them so they don't rust???

 

Paint 'em up. That will keep the moisture off.

 

They will rust, but mine are almost 2 1/2 years old and only have minor rust. I wouldn't worry about it. The composite but won't rust!

The ones on my 08 look like new...... Oh yea... forgot to mention, I have a cap on the bed.

 

Mine have some corrosion (looks like from salt, not rust) on my 06. A Tonno has been on most of those years though.

 

Been thinking about a cover like yours Larry. Down the road a short piece, I get something like that. Don't want a top. The tonno Probably helps with the MPG???

 

There's all kinds of arguments for and against it which I hope not to get started in this thread. Personally I might have seen an average of ~.5mpg improvement, but it is such a negligible improvement it might not be actually from the tonneau at all. Furthermore, Myth Busters determined that the tailgate actually provides down force and creates a cushion of air thereby reducing drag and improving mpg...so the jury is out and everyone has their opinions.

It is best for keeping the bed clean/dry and securing stuff out of sight. With a tailgate lock (like pop&lock) you can prevent theft too.

 

Ok. Thanks Larry. I have to do some more reseach on that anyway. My Ford Ranger that I am trading in on the Taco, it made a 3 mpg improvement with the tailgate down.
