Cleaning Engine bay

Has anyone ever done this?
If so what products do you recommend?
Anything I should know before starting?

 

I've seen it done with WD-40, pretty much cover everything and wipe down with rags... Looked great afterwards.

 

I hose it out every so often but nothing crazy. There are plenty of electronics that wouldn't take direct hose spray very well so I don't go nuts, just enough to get all the salt and sand out of it from the winter. Other than that, just clean off the engine cover and it looks good as new

 

Steam only on mine....

 

I start with a quick rinse and scrubbing with a soft brush and an all purpose cleaner, rinse well and allow to dry then follow up with a product by Chemical Guys called "Bare Bones"

 

just spray it down, soak with degreaser, then you're good. unless you want a shine

I use Amazing Roll Off. Along wih a soft brush I also use microfiber gloves over latex gloves that protect the hands from the harsh product. You can get to most all the hard to reach spots and the underside of parts with your glove covered hands.

 

I prespray w/ P21s Total Auto Wash. Get a soapy, soft bristled brush to agitate with, then rinse off w/ a gentle stream of water. Turn the motor on, wipe stuff down then dress it w/ CD2 engine detailer or I'll use Bare Bones, both of which are aerosols.

 

just rinse it off gently, put some degreaser and scrub with a soft brush, dry it up. Add some armor all to the black parts if you want some shine

 

warm up truck, rinse with water, spray with windex, close hood to activate steam cleaning action, rinse with water, DONE

 

Tried and true Gunk.

 

Wouldn't heating up your engine then spraying it with water allow for cracking?

 

i herd over time that using wd-40 will give the metal components that white corrsion to it (seen it before on my friends car), i use simple green non-corrosive cleaner (purple bottle)... pretty tough to find but it cleans really well, stay away from any "citrus" clener as the acid from the citrus will in the long run corrode the bare metal parts

I think you would get the same results if you throw steaming hot water on an ice cover windshield.

 

How would I clean my engine to were it sounds the same
After I went mudding. It just sounds louder and I don't know why it is making that noise It sounds different and I wonder how I can fix it??

 

Spray "SHOUT" (yes, the stain remover for your clothes) all over the cool engine and let set for about 5 minutes. Then hose it off and let the engine run with the hood down for 15 minutes to dry the engine. I've heard that SHOUT is less corrosive than using GUNK on the components. I did this before winter because things were looking dirty and it did a good job.

 

So it would most likely clean it up pretty good?

I use simple green degreaser, spary it all over the bay then brush it in and pressure wash it off. Always works good. Usually comes out looking like Pete's picture above.
