Paint cost

I got a gouge in my hood that was down to the metal and one that was passenger side finder. I tried fixing it but it looks just as bad with patches of touch of touch of paint. I got an esitmate of $700.00 to fix it, apparently to make it look like new you have to repaint the whole hood and fender. Anyone know if $700.00 is ripoff?

 

To paint a hood and a fender, that's a fair price, if it's a reputable bodyshop. If it's somewhere like Maaco, it's a ripoff. I'd charge right at $700 for a hood and fender, possibly a little more, depending on color. You get what you pay for.....

 

how old is your truck? if you have an almost new truck then less work has to be done to match the hood to the fenders. I got away with not doing my hood and doors when I painted my fenders because the paint wasnt faded much at all. also had a connection so I got my fenders installed and painted for 500

 

I just obtained a couple of estimates from non-franchise body shops to repair a dent in the rear quarter panel of my Tacoma. Both shops quoted about 4.5 hours paint labor at $60/hour and between $135 and $175 for paint material. That was to do the entire panel so it would match the rest of the truck (pearl white with clear coat).

 

My truck is 11 months old got it last November it has 18,000 miles. The chip in the hood was down to the metal and I wanted to get that fixed before winter. The one on passenger side runs vertical between the door and black fender. They would repaint that whole part of the truck and the hood. So I guess that's the front passenger quarter panel. I might wait till after winter with my luck I will get it painted then hit a deer or slide into a ditch in January just to get it all replaced again. Is there any disadvantage to waiting bedside an ugly patch job?

 

just my opinion but 700 is excessive around here. i grew up around several automotive shops and that seems high..

 

Thanks radcat, I took it another collision shop that I delt with in the past for some simple mechanical stuff they said they would do it for 400.00. I will save the 300 bucks and have them do it. It cant look any worse than it does now. Well I would hope not anyway!

 

not a problem bro....i'm telling ya alot of shops are very excessive...it does not take that much time or labor to remove scratches and paint.. glad your saving your cash...

 

Ya I just hope its looks as good as new. I am just mad at myself for f****** it up in the first place! I am playing black jack making 20 dollars a day to pay for it lol
