I bought 3 cans just to be safe, but I believe I only used 2. 4-5 coats if I remember right

See? Not so bad when you actually see it in application. Everyone hates on it because they don't have any

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I just think in NC it would make your truck hot as balls in August but I do think it looks good. My wife was in that business before we started a family. The best vinyl available is only guaranteed for 7 or 8 years, but the color is only probably good for 2 she said. It's different on a roof or hood than the sides because obviously they are always in the sun, at least the sides get some relief. No matter what, the sun and weather is going to murder it. For like $6 a can that plastidip looks awesome. I'm all for your idea, just against doing it in vinyl.

Couldn't agree more. Plus a black roof on a white truck will look sick in my opinion.

I think it's a guarantee it won't peel. Not that it won't fade. Just make sure you look into that. Some of the guarantees are application specific because of situations like this. One thing you got going for you is that it's a pretty simple install so it shouldn't cost a lot. You could probably easily pull it off yourself.

    Im getting there......
Do what you like personally i think it matters on the color of truck and what look your going for.....on lifted off road trucks I think it is kind of clashing but thats my opinion. On your truck it would look good especially with thy white. I would definitely go matte finish though.

With regard to paint I believe the OP meant would the trucks paint fade more on the uncovered parts than the roof covered in vinyl. I hope he wouldn't consider painting the roof as that would be a stupid move in terms of the trucks future value. To answer his question the paint shouldn't fade in the life of the vinyl especially seeing as your truck is white it would be very hard to tell.

I doubt painting the roof would drop the value down that much, if at all depending on the buyer. There are people like my dad who just don't pay attention or give a shit about stuff like that. My mom and I bought him rims for X-mas years ago, we decided to let him notice them. He didn't notice that his rims changed till we said something (we are talking over a month). When we told him it was 'oh, I thought something was different'

As my mom says "different strokes for different folks"

Have the 3M matte black vinyl on my front bumper. Been 6 months, no rock chips, fading, tears ect. It gives really nice results, takes a lot of work/knowlage to apply. Plastic dip will eventually fade becuase it is just a rubberised coating. The vinyls are coated to protect against fading.
