Anybody ever been the free car wash guy? I have. It isn't too fun. I completely understand them doing a lousy job. I remember being 15-20 cars backed up before and getting grief cause I wasn't going fast enough. Sprinkle in the detailing jobs and the new purchase washes and it gets a little crazy.

But also, a lot of the people doing it don't care--it's not their vehicle so why bother?

I will say, I tried my best to get them looking nice.

Major plus--I got to fully detail my truck whenever I wanted using all the dealers resources.

I don't get it... You brought your truck in "spotless" to get a free car wash?

    That is stupid.

I don't have them wash it nor does it go through a car wash been burned before long ago with damage to the vehicles' antenaes ripped off, scrapes and scratches from the brush heads, side window on a cap broken, lic plate ripped off etc etc. The nice part about where I work 12 bucks gets me a hand wash and wax when I don't have time to do it myself.

I've owned a Toyota now for the last twenty years and have gone off to the Dealership numerous times and never knew them to wash your vehicle while there for a service. They should at least attempt to wash it for the prices they charge for a service.:D

I wouldn't take a vehicle to anyone else but a professional to wash it. The church groups may be the worst, old grundgy towels, rocks stuck to them, tar from one vehicle transferred to another etc...best just to give them a donation. Some car lots do a decent job but again don't be surprised when you see a new scratch after they wash it.

When boerne toyota flushed my trans I thought the wash was pretty good for a dealer. Plus it was free so no biggie.

I love Toyota of Boerne (bought 3 Toys there) but since Vic Vaughan built their in-house prep/wash center, there washes have gone straight down hill. Just there this past Wednesday and had the oil changed, etc... got the wash for free. But it's not so much a wash is it is "dirt displacement."

I NEVER let any1 wash me truck. Only person responsible for truck looking as good as it does is me. I specifically tell the dealerships not to wash. They "prepped" the truck for me at delivery and it wasnt as clean as It is when i wash. Just cant beat the satisfaction of job well done. Not too mention they always spank the tires like my 4x4 cruises the streets in the hood at night.

Here was my brand new truck after they detailed it prior to delivery. Scratches in the clear coat from using a dirty towel to wipe it down.

    101_4484_9a24b05d165ecddf881c4821e0dd8ad72b1eb03a.jpg

Raised hell with them and they offered to "fix" it. I told them no way were they touching my truck again. Spent about 10 hours buffing, polishing, and waxing it to get it back to new. They did give me $200 worth of free service work for my time. Took it in to have them swap out my TPMS sensors from my old stock wheels to my new wheels (they did this as part of my free service work from f***ing up the truck the first time) and to have an alignment done after installing my 5100's. They dismounted my old tires and swapped the sensors into my new wheels for $100 and did the alignment for $100 (my $200 worth of free service work). I had just detailed the truck before I took it in (looked like this):

    Before1_64b90ff1e6fa3a788abb15a01ddd4a976df2ff9f.jpg
    Before3_329513c3ea47ea27566f2149c6541c1e227beaeb.jpg
    Before4_b2832886a6b69019e15ccff11da253bbb4c8033d.jpg

I specifically told them the truck had just been detailed and not to wash it. The service work they did was fine, but here's what it looked like when I got it back (not to mention the grease on the seats and door panel):

    After2_ac6a39d5fea7e3baaecdb07146fe963ad0a07910.jpg
    After6_0dcdf19816990f6ecfd3aaab2efd44097a2e0f60.jpg
    After3_56df83ee9f450780af923d6e46145dab712cb9f6.jpg

After bitching again, they sent me a check for $100 to reimburse me for the alignment. I have to say they are at least trying to make it good for me (they're paying me about $25/hour to detail my truck), but I will insist they do not ever wash or detail my truck again.

Apparently, I didn't make it clear enough to them. That won't be a problem next time. IMO, I shouldn't have to wait until I get it back to detail it if I specifically tell them not to wash it. You would think they should be smart enough to see it doesn't need washing in the first place. Obviously, some people just don't give a shit. I do.

To answer the OP's question, yes, dealer washes suck.
