I took my canoe up to the lake this weekend and one of the.straps rubbed on the paint pretty good. It looks superficial enough but I want to try to get it out. What's a good way to get marks off the paint, clay bar, rubbing compound?

Use a mild polish, and just go at it by hand with a microfibre cloth. That should do the trick. If the scratches are really bad, you may have to go with a more aggressive polish, or even a power buffer. But if it's just straps rubbing, polish by hand should work for ya.
