Painting stock grill

I don't really care for the chrome look of my grill, I was thinking of buying a whole new grill shell in either black or red to match my car. Then I thought about saving a few bucks and painting it myself so I started looking into paints. Came across this chrome black out paint that looks pretty cool.Painting stock grill-imageuploadedbytapatalk1357858779.002205.jpg

Reviews are hit and miss. Sounds like people have trouble with it on real chrome but it work well on plastic chrome. For $25 shipped its worth a try for me... I'll post some before and after pictures.

That sounds like a good option as well, that would make it black though. I hope I get the black chrome I'm looking for...

sub'd

I saw someone else with this and theirs turned out crappy. It's tough to get it to stick on something that is not etched. If you etch the plastic chrome then you see the light scratches under the new finish.

I tried this paint today and I was not happy with the results. Its very blotchy and takes a few coats to look uniform but by then its pretty much black... It works well for emblems and thats about all I would recommend if for. Long story short I ordered a black grill and matching blacked out headlights to match.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna like the finish of the grill I ordered.Painting stock grill-imageuploadedbytapatalk1360631976.046028.jpg
I really like the look of the grill but it may be too shiny. So I plan to give it a few coats of plasti dip, I also have the glossifier to add a little sheen.

I'll post some before and after pictures.
