Uh ohhhh emblem issues

So I took my emblems off blow dryer fishing line came off easy, except where some of the emblems pulled the glue with them, took some of the paint off with it! At first I thought it was glue and but turns out its def paint missing literally, what are my best options? Rubbing compound? Finishing compound? Wax? Or should I just take it to a detailing place and have them try to buff of whatever is salvageable? Truck is almost 2 months old and no scratches other then this and I'm beyond irritated

 

Wow! I just did the ones on my 2013 with no issues. I ended up using braided fishing line. Pretty much sawed right through the tape. I did one without any heat at all. How hot did you get it? Sorry man that blows. I would contact the dealer and see who they use to touch up new cars.

 

I heated em up hot enough it wasn't fun to touch, but nothing crazy. Gonna need touch up paint and a good detailing I guess, most def sucks and deters me from doing my side ones now.

This is unusual. I never use heat on emblems, it is super easy as it is without adding extra potential paint hazards

If you really did pull paint clean off your kinda screwed.

Polishing will do nothing other than make the problem worse if you did take off the clear coat. Your just gonna make the hole in the paint bigger if you start to wet sand/polish it. Touch ups nearly always look like shit. They never dry the right colour and they are usually very obvious.

Your best bet might be to stick the emblems back on to cover it back up. If you want to make it look mint again it will need to be repainted if you did take off paint.

 

^^This! I only used fishing line, no heat, to take off my dealer badge on the tailgate. Then I used some goo gone to get rid of what was left of the tape. Plastidipped the other badges.

 

Touch up pen if you just want a cheap fix...are you going to put the emblems back on?

Hmm.. sounds like the heat may have been the problem. I took mine off with fishing line, and some WD40. Went through a car wash afterwards and the glue was completely gone.

 

Camera on my phone is broken trying to fix that now, I used goo gone and if it is some glue left its not taking it off I through some wax on the try and help the deeper scratches, maybe I need some abrasive remover to make sure all remaining glue is gone to see the final damage.

 

I did mine on my 2013 in 97 degree heat and they came right off - those ugly Baja ones.

 

you certainly don't need an abrasive remover, things will just go from ugly to uglier..

if the emblems were really too hot to touch, you softened the paint underneath...it ain't gonna be cheap to fix, a complete repaint on a hood the last time I had it done was $600, probably more now a days, that was about 12 years ago...

hopefully, you just had the problem on the tailgate?

 

Used a credit card and my hands. Came off easily, the residue just pilled up and came right off too. A little bit of Turtle Wax to finish the process and get my fingerprints off.

I think a heatgun is massive overkill unless those badges have been on for a few years. And if they have, you'll have a fading issue to deal with and you just might as well leave them on.

 

The more I'm looking at it there is still some small patches of glue maybe not all the paint removed like initially reported, what should I use to get the excess off without damaging what's already been done? I used a blow dryer FYI no heat gun. On the bright side I finally used the bed outlet lol.

 

I rub it off with my thumb. No need for chemicals.

 

I just removed mine a couple weeks ago with no issues.

Although I did get a damn blister from thumb rolling the adhesive

 

Yes, you do have to watch out for blisters. But it is super quick, easy, and removes all of the adhesive!

No worries about paint, no need to bother with chemicals needlessly. De-badging is so easy I think more people make more problems by trying to over complicate the process.
