Billet Grill Question

i just got a new chrome billet grill. i would like to paint it black. what is the best way of going about this? get it powdercoated? sand/prep and spray paint? help

 

Have any pics of it now? What color is your truck? Im sure the chrome looks good now but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lord knows I regret painting some of my car parts before.

i have a silver and black theme on my truck, the truck being silver and all accesories...black. i know i want my grill black, just dont know of the best way of going about painting it black. here is a website pic of the grill.

about how much you think that will run me?

 

Depending on the size and number of pieces- 100-175 is my guess.

I painted mine- Powdercoat is durable- but if it does get damaged (rock chips or anything) the entire piece must be redone. Paint means you can touch up as needed.

I sanded mine down just enuf to dull the chrome, cleaned it with alcohol, primed and painted it with Duplicolor rattlecan products. Had to touch up the bumper grill after a day of offroading and getting to close with a pressure washer.

Plus it only cost less than 20 bucks in paint and a weekend of time.

 

I would go about painting it the same way the DIY is for the black headlight mod. Rough the grill up with sandpaper first then paint it with black Krylon spraypaint but it will definately chip (not instantly) but it WILL chip and bugs will be just as hard to get off of it like the stock grill. But I think that will do it. Sandpaper and Krylon
