Durability of vinyl?

How durable Is vinyl exactly? I've heard so many stories, like washing it will make the edges peel and come loose and other people say it's as durable as paint, so what's the real story? I'd be getting 3m wrap if that helps

 

It all depends on how well its installed. Only way a pressure washer would lift an edge is if the installer handled it too much in a certain area,didn't properly heat stretch it enough, or didn't clean the area very well. Once the vinyl is down, its down. Would take a lot more than a pressure washer to get it off.

 

what about durability to scratching or dirt? Say take it off roading

 

Cleans the same as paint. Not suppose to use a brush on it. Some vinyl scratches worse than others. I know high gloss vinyl is the worse. I'm sure tree brush would probably scratch it up depending on how thick it is. For small scratches you can actually use wax to get them out. Would much rather have the brush going over the vinyl than squeaking down my clear coat. I had my motorcycle wrapped for 3 years and never had scratching on my tank from belt buckles or my helmet. Right now I have Brushed metallic on my lower bumper and it hasn't been scratched from tall grass or flying road crap. You could always buy a swatch off ebay for 5 bucks and test it out.

 

yeah, shit I was actually thinking about glossy white haha not really sure what color to go with if glossy will scratch easy my trucks matte black now but it's rattle can

 

The darker the wrap the more noticeable the scratches. White is probably the best to hide them.

Buy this and play with it. Its only 7 bucks. That's what I did when I was interested in it. Practiced applying and did some testing with it before I wrapped my bike. It can be tricky to apply sometimes.

Wait a minute... you rattle canned your truck and you're worried about durability of finish??

Sounds like colored plasti-dip might not be a bad option for you, and I'm being serious. A quality vinyl job can cost quite a bit of money and is volunerable to trail damage. Might as well go with a few hundred bucks for plasti-dip and have the ability to touch it up as necessary.

I didn't rattle can it my self, it was like that when I bought it but yeah its rattle canned, plastidip is pretty expensive and easy to mess up too haha, I'm having my friend do the job for me, I should be able to have the truck wrapped for about $11-1200 out the door and thats with 3m glossy white wrap, or whatever other color
