Local car wash. As long as the engine is warmed up and running, you can hit it with the warm wand in soap mode, then rinse it off. I do mine at home every few months, but I have a hot/cold hose connection in my garage.

Simple green works good but don't forget that it can speed up the corrosion process on bare aluminums.

No mods yet but I'm working on that
Get "muscle magic" from oriellys. We use it on heavy equipment. I use it on my truck all the time. Works a 1000 times better than simple green or purple power. They don't sell it up front, its in the back. Just spray it on and rinse it off. When you are done rinsing, spray EVERYTHING under your hood with armor all and slam your hood. Leave it running until it bakes that into all your plastic stuff and is dry, I guarantee it will look brand new.

the absolute best stuff ever at cleaning engine bay's is purple power. you can pick it up at advanced auto / auto zone. just don't let it sit on the paint under there long or it will mess it up. also don't get it on your skin or it will burn after a while... strong stuff.

You might also look into finding a Heavy duty truck repair facility, they usually have steam cleaners they use on the big trucks and equipment with tons of grease and grime, could probably talk them into letting you wash the engine bay for a few bucks.

Purple power, rinse, then armor all tire foam the whole engine bay. Keeps the rubber conditioned well too. 150k and hoses still look brand new.

Don't use a pressure washer or anything like that.

It's meant to be driven on rainy days and such. A lot of guys take their trucks through deep water and such, so yes it's okay for it to get wet. If you use any sort of pressure under the hood you'll end up pushing water places its not meant to go. A simple rinse is all you need.
