I picked up some JB Plasticweld putty epoxy stuff that I read was supposed to be pretty good, and since the part in working on is plastic I got the plastic weld one. My key fob broke where the key ring attaches (I'm sure I'm not the only one that this has happened to) so I picked up some of this stuff thinking it would be perfect. I molded a pretty decent size piece to the top, around the broken key ring hole. I put it on there yesterday and it wasn't cured by this morning. I put it under a lamp today and by tonight it still wasn't fully cured. It did seem a little harder but the box said it should be fully cured within 3 hours. Is the piece I put on too thick? Any input is appreciated

Probably needed to mix the two parts up better before molding it.

It didn't come with two different parts. It came as a putty like clay in a tube

Usually there is 2 different putties to mix together to create a chemical reaction to cure it.

If it was in a tube there is an inner and outer color, knead them together untill they are uniform in color. If its like plumbers epoxy.....

You have to knead it like bread.

EDIT: ya beat me to the punch!

Yup, like others said knead the core in with the outside.

I actually used something like this (don't remember if it was made by JB Weld or not) for one of my mom's key fobs and it's been holding up great.

Also, just a loop of JB itself wouldn't have been strong enough. Better would be cut a slot in the fob, then embed a steel washer in the slot with JB.

I have an idea you might like: Look up a TW member neneago. He makes all-in-one keys with the fob chip inside. Works great.

I believe that was my problem. Not kneading it enough. I think I still might be able to take it off. Sometimes I'm just a little too impatient...

And i looked him up but it looks like he just makes them for newer tacos. I have a first gen. Later down the road I'm going to invest in a nice viper security system but for now I just need a quick fix

You have a 1st gen yes but if your have the RS3200 keyless system and not the RS3000....you could get that all in one key. The RS3200 came in 1st gens too.

Check with neneago on that. On the 2nd gen, there are code marks on the key, may also be on the 1st gen.

Alright guys I just wanted to say thanks for all of you who recommended neneago to me. I just ordered a key for my 04. His products are not on eBay anymore because of the fees he had to pay so they are on his website ovnisf.com. Can't wait to try it out :D
