Best Wax

What is the best wax in your experience? New TRD owner and want the best for my TACO. Thanks to all.

 

What color?

 

Better off with a sealant versus a wax. A sealant will last longer. I usually put a sealant down, then top it with

Collinite 845, then I add a layer of Wolfgang Fuzion. The Collinite does great against bugs. Most of the time bugs wipe off when washing.

I'm a big fan of Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection which is a sealant. I apply it twice a year. After every wash I spray on Optimum Car Wax for added protection. Just spray it on & wipe it off. Also, if you find a product you like see if they have it in the gallon size. Much cheaper in bulk.

Fuzion is expensive but I bought the small container for a lot less. Not to mention I have done 3 cars with and you can barely tell I have used.

There are plenty of good products out there. Again a paint sealant is better than wax. I highly recommend the Collinite. Recently I started using Chemical Guys V07 as a detail spray and it also has a sealant in it for in between washes.

 

I agree with ace, Collinite is some good stuff. I've used it on a few different colors and it shines great and nothing sticks to it.

 

You've got a color that will reflect the hard work you put into detailing it, lighter colors do not.

Depending on what you're looking for, shine? protection? deep wet look?
If your truck is in a garage - you can wax 2-3 times a year. If it's outside 6 times a year at a minimum because you need more protection than something in a garage.

IMO
Collinite will last the longest and provide the best protection.
I've had good results with Klasse all in one as well.
Zano Brothers provides the best shine.
Pinnacle carnauba will provided the best wet look.

Be sure you use a clay bar on your paint before waxing with anything to be sure it's as clean as it can be.

+1 but, clay bar every time? I disagree. Twice a year is plenty.

 

I don't disagree Idaho - if the truck is garaged, a couple times a year is fine. If it's sitting outside, I'd clay bar it every time or I'll be waxing over tree sap and who knows what.

At least clay bar the horizontal surfaces if I'm pressed for time.

 

I live in MA where we have road salt. I clay bar mine every spring prior to the first wash/wax session and that's served me just fine.

I forget who mentioned Chemical Guys V07 here, but could you use that with clay bar?

 

ABA - I've not used Chemical Guys stuff - but any inexpensive lubricant would work fine for claying - Meguire's, Mother's, or Lucas Slick Mist would all be readily available at a local car parts store and about $6 a bottle.

 

Pinnacle or meguiars

 

You can also use whatever soap you're using as a lubricant, this will save you $ on those products. Wash it first, go over again by panel and lather it good and clay it in straight motions, not circular.

 

I last bought the Mother's clay kit..I liked the idea of chemical Guys because someone said it contained a sealant as well..

Don't waste your time with waxing over a sealant. Good chance the wax will just remove the sealant. Especially if you apply it right after sealing, like most people do.

There is also no need to clay every time. Thats another waste of time. 2x per year is absolutely fine unless you live under a refinery.

"Best shine", "Best Wet Look", etc, is nothing more than a matter of opinion. I guarantee I can put two vehicles that I just detailed right next to each other and nobody would be able to tell what product was used on which one.

I will give the nod to Collinite being a very durable product though. Plenty of independent tests prove that (along with a handful of others).

Collinite 845 and 476 is well priced though. Hard to find a better bang for your buck than those two (476 more durable btw).

My personal opinion on a final product: Chemical Guys 50/50

I detail a lot of vehicles every year, despite having sold the biz years ago, and I have found this process to be the best when it comes to time spent and outcome. Take it for what its worth.

Wash
Clay (and/or spray with iron-x....which is well worth it)
Re-wash
polish or paint cleaner
wax OR seal

That's all you really need to do. You can finish all steps in under 4 hours and the truck will look great.

 

I disagree. You can wax over a sealant as long as sealant has cured properly. Wax should not remove sealant since waxes typically do not have any cleansing power. I seal then layer with wax for that extra pop.
