I'm going to have a free weekend coming up and have been wanting to paint my grill on my '98. I'm not completely painting illiterate but I need some help on what kind of paint and primer that will be best for diy. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and also any advice on the steps of sanding etc. that will help me achieve the best results. Thanks!

Also the grill has a chrome surround and is starting to peel a little bit on the top under the hood if that helps.

The i repainted my grill and bumper, I stripped all the chrome on the grill off with a box cutter, then primed with rustoleum painters touch, painted with krylon fusion. No chips or anything so far and its been about 3 months.

I also painted my bumper valence and chrome ends. Again, krylon and rustoleum on the valence, but plastidip on the ends b/c I wanted to be able to take it off if Ididn't like it. Hope this helps! :D

Thank you! Your truck is pretty close to what I want mine to look like eventually and your front end looks sick! What kind of finish was the krylon fusion, gloss? Also did you clear coat your bumper, valence and grill?

Thanks Josh! I've heard more bad about plasti-dip than good so I'm pretty iffy about it. Your build looks like it's going quite well. What grit sandpaper did you use and also did you use the same process on the bumper and chrome ends as you did on the grill? I've never had any experience painting chrome is why I'm asking all these questions hah.

Ha good, it holds mud/dirt for me for some reason and it looks so bad. Thanks is slowly picking up.
Uh can't remember but don't think it was very small, just something rough enough to take the paint off. I plasti-dipped them first so it may be different from yours but yeah same process.

Hah thanks man! I used the krylon fusion satin and was about to clear but decided not to cause it looked good to me. IMO if i would've used gloss it would've been way too glossy...
