How long do you let the wax sit?

After a wash and clay bar, I usually wax my car. How long do you guys leave it on for? I use the cheap turtle wax for my civic and its real tough to wipe off the excessive wax.

Take it off when it dries. Turtle Was is the devil, have never used it and never will.

I've been using Meguiar's NXT liquid wax and I can take it off after just a minute or two. I've been very impressed with it!

I agree with the previous post regarding Turtle Wax. I used it when I was 16 and it sucked! Never used it again.

Once it cures to the point that it does not smear to the touch.

Get some of the synthetic wax. It goes on clear & you can do it on hot surface or in the sun. It works great! And if you get it on the plastic, it doesn't matter.

Get an easy on, easy off wax and you won't have to wait. Some of the best ones are:
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax
  • SYSTEM ONE Spray Wax
  • Duragloss Aquawax
  • Eagle One Nanowax
Meguiar's NXT 2.0 liquid wax is nice except that it stains plastic trim.

I have to say, The Duragloss Aquawax is on the poor side of the spray waxes. 1 rain, and it was virtually all washed off. When are you gonna carry the CSI stuff??

I think you mean Eagle One Nanowax. I'm pretty sure you said you liked Duragloss.

Whichever one was Product #4. That was the one that washed off after 1 rain.

I was always told that the wax was ready to be removed when you can run your finger over it and it comes off without resistance. If its still smudgy, wet, etc. it still needs to dry. It should come off on your finger almost to the point of being like a thick dust. YMMV. Time will be different based on ambient conditions (temp, sunlight, vehicle temp. etc.)

That is good to know. I'm always careful around plastic trim so I've been lucky so far.

I guess I should have mentioned that everyone should tape off thier black trim with painters tape to make life alot easier. Takes 10mins if that and saves some real aggrevation if you get that crud on your trim.

Good Tip... I hate it when I wax my car and the wax somehow find it self between hard to reach crevices. I usually tape off the the outer parts of the headlights and taillight as well.

I found that peanut butter will take it right off like nothing the oil or something will allow you to wipe it away.

Why tape when you can use wax that doesn't stain? There are several out there that work great and don't stain or leave crust/residue.
