I noticed when I washed my truck for the first time that it has some sort of textured paint around the bottom that goes about 4 or so inches up the truck. Do all of the Tacoma's have this or is it just the first generations? Is there a practical purpose for this? It looks like it might resist chipping a little better than regular paint and might be thicker too.

Chip resistant. Most all trucks have this.

I thought this might be a somewhat stupid question but my Dad's Ford doesn't have it :D I guess cause it's a Ford, and this is my first truck so I didn't have a whole lot of experience with these kinds of things. I was just wondering if the new trucks had it since I've read they have thin paint that chips easily.
