I've always been in to detailing my trucks, but the way I use soap was on my body b/c it sweats and the integumentary system regenerates so we scuff off dead skin and oil with soap. Well, trucks dont have pores, nor do they sweat so why use soap? Don't they remove the protective wax anyway?

i thought dish soaps will take off wax but a car wash soap will not.

Soap is an emulsifier... oil/grease/etc won't dissolve in water. Your truck picks up this residue from the road/your hands/its environment and to get it off you need to use something that will allow it to be easily washed away. The soap suspends the dirt/grime/whatever in water so it can be washed away. I suppose if all you had on your truck was dust then plain water would work ok... but so would one of those dust mops.

automotive soap should'nt strip wax, also soap is used as a lubricant to help decrease scratching during washing.
